Wicker

Wicker is a new asymmetrical (and completely reversible!) shawl pattern that is perfect for fingering weight yarns, especially my Journey (100% superwash merino) yarn. The name of this pattern is directly tied to the openwork panels of this shawl. The design, when blocked, appears to be very similar to the traditional wicker furniture pattern that I grew up with. If you grew up in the ’70s and ’80s like I did, then you will recognize this pattern from the wicker furniture craze. A nifty feature of this pattern is that, because it involves quick-knit garter stitch, it knits up and blocks equally well no matter what your knitting style happens to be. It also happens to be a great shawl pattern for novice knitters.

If you are like me, then you want your shawls to have the ability to double as scarves. This pattern makes a very attractive scarf, by the way.

Wicker is available on Ravelry, on Craftsy, and on Zibbet.com in my shop as a pdf download.
