Socktastic

I admit it, socks are my very favorite thing in the world to knit. I can’t think of a time in recent years when I haven’t had at least one sock on the needles. When I created Socktastic, I wanted a pattern that would be fun and easy and maybe a little addictive. Well, it’s important to be careful of what you wish for because once I cast on, I couldn’t stop! Three pairs of Socktastic’s later and I finally sent the pattern to Michelle of Berry Colorful Yarnings and Margie, AKA the Best Test Knitter on this side of the world, for test knitting. Now you need to understand that Michelle wasn’t fond of knitting socks before this pattern. If you follow her on Instagram, you’ll see that she’s got some mad knitting skills and dyes up some amazing yarns, but until recently there weren’t a lot of sock in progress pictures. After test knitting Socktastic, she can’t seem to keep socks off of her needles! So be prepared and be warned, this is an addictive pattern!

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

Spring time, when the earth comes alive with flowers, singing birds and the shops start to carry PEEPS! I couldn’t resist creating a sock in tribute to one of my all time favorite treats.

New patterns make a Rhinebeck debut!

Introducing two new patterns and a coupon code for you!

I’m so excited to be releasing two patterns that I thought I would have a little sale on all the patterns in my shop. Use coupon code: Rhinebeck for 20% off of any pattern in my shop. Good through 10/21.

Fire and Blood is the second pattern in Collection 2 of my Game of Thrones inspired series. It’s worked up in Miss Babs Kaweah which is a lovely round DK yarn that comes in a wide range of colors. It has such a lovely hand and I literally couldn’t stop knitting with it because I liked it so much!

Daydream Believer is a collaboration between my very good friend Michelle aka BCYarnings who dyes up the most fantastic self striping yarns. Knit up in her Saturated Sock, this is one of those patterns where the yarn does all the work for you, just sit back and enjoy the knit!

If you are going to the Indie Untangled trunk show in Rhinebeck tomorrow, there will be a very limited number of kits for Daydream Believer that include the yarn and pattern. If you want one, I suggest getting there early!

Fright Night

Introductory priced at $3.99 on Ravelry until October 1, no coupon code needed. Happy Haunting, I mean Knitting 🙂

What do you do when your next door neighbor is a Vampire? Well in the case of a knitting pattern designer, you design socks with a Vampire theme and hope for the best! These socks were inspired by one of my all time favorite Halloween movies, Fright Night and my love for Vampire horror movies in general.

The Fright Night socks are knitted from the cuff down and available in two sizes, adult medium and large (8 1/2” – 9 1/2” in foot circumference). Stranded colorwork bats encircle the leg and a striped heel flap adds a bit of pop. Knitted up in Undead Yarn’s Vamphyri in the Graveyard colorway with Black and Red accents.

They will really knock the socks off the Vampire lover in your life!

The Great Game

Introducing the first pattern in the second Game of Thrones Collection! The Great Game was designed to work with Miss Babs 7 Color Gradient Set in Caroline or Yummy 2-Ply, and is shown in the Edge of Reality colorway. Be sure to check out the three amazing Great Game Sets that Miss Babs has dyed up in Caroline, her new super luxurious fingering weight cashmere blend. She came up with three amazing color sets: Edge of Reality, Edge of Temptation and Phoenix Rising.

I designed The Great Game to be a simple to knit shawl that could be worn throughout the year. It has side to side construction with a delicate lace edging that is worked along with the body of the shawl. It’s one of those knit’s that becomes intuitive early on in the pattern and provides a relaxing without being boring knit. Aside from the lace edging, you won’t have to worry about stitch counts which make it a perfect project to bring to knit group. I’ve provided instructions for the lace in both written and charted format for your knitting pleasure. I hope that you guys enjoy knitting it as much as I did!

Kiltie as Charged

My friend Tierney got me hooked on the Outlander series, which was the inspiration for Kiltie As Charged. I designed these fun-to-knit socks while I was binge watching the first two seasons and, like most Outlander fans, I can’t wait for the third! While we all anxiously wait for it to be released next month, I thought it with St. Paddy’s Day being right around the corner, it would be the perfect time to release Kiltie as Charged. I know, I know — it’s an Irish holiday, but since I’m Irish I’m taking a little liberty with it. And so you don’t make too much fun of me for that, use coupon code ‘Lucky’ for 50% off through March 31.

The pattern is written for use with DPNs, but can easily be adapted to knit with Magic Loop or 2 circulars. Included are both charted and written directions in an easy-to-print-for-your-size layout.

Heat Lighting and Socktober

I’d like to introduce my latest sock design, Heat Lighting in Unplanned Peacock’s Cozy Sock. This is a super fun and easy to knit sock that is worked from the cuff down and incorporates a modified short row heel. The lace pattern is simple enough to knit while watching TV or going to a game. Unplanned Peacock’s Cozy sock was a delight to work with. It’s a blend of 20% super soft alpaca, 60% merino and 20% nylon. It had a luxurious hand and literally just glided over my needles.

In celebration of the release of Heat Lighting and Socktober, ALL of the sock patterns in my Ravelry Pattern Shop are 50% until October 1. Use coupon code: Socktober when you check out.

Shark Bite

Introducing Shark Bite! Use coupon code: Amity for $2.00 off until July 5th. Don’t get caught with your socks in the water and have a Happy 4th of July!

The Shark Bite socks were inspired by one of my all time favorite movies, JAWS. It’s a tradition for my husband and I to have a JAWS movie marathon over the 4th of July weekend every year. We hunker down in our den and watch the movies from beginning to end. 2015 is the 40th Anniversary of the original JAWS movie and I thought it was an appropriate time to design a pattern in homage to the movie.

Shark Bite is written from the cuff down. The cuff and leg portion of the socks are worked in the flat, and then joined at the ankle. The heel, foot and toe are worked in the round.

If you aren’t familiar with knitting colorwork, links to tutorials are provided in the pattern. While the colorwork details might look difficult to knit, they are really only over a small portion of the sock and some of them, like the swimmer and shark’s teeth can be done in duplicate stitch once you are finished knitting.

The sample was was worked using KnitPicks Stroll unless otherwise noted. This is a perfect project to use mini skeins and left over yarn for the smaller details.

Marshwood

I’ve just released Marshwood, a lovely two-skein shawl in Bare Naked Wools Confection Sport. The pattern is available on Ravelry, and Bare Naked Wools will be offering a kit including the yarn and pattern on their website later this week. I can’t tell you how excited I am about this! If you already have some Confection in your stash and just need the pattern, use coupon code BNW for $1 off through 5/11 in my Ravelry pattern shop.

I’ve also updated my Etsy shop with some new bags, a…n…d I’m introducing my new gradient yarns that I dyed. They are available in a sock kit that includes two center pull balls of dyed-to-match sock yarn, a sock-sized bag and your choice of any one of my sock patterns. Single skeins for shawl, scarf or cowl knitting are available separately. Use code freeshipping for US orders, good through 5/11. I’m so sorry that I can’t offer this on international orders. If you would like a quote to ship outside of the US, please convo me — I don’t mark the shipping up from what I am charged.

Here is a bit about the yarn: It’s a lovely base of 440 yards of superwash Merino blended with 25% nylon in a three-ply fingering weight. Each skein is dyed individually by hand using colorfast acid dyes. The skeins are wound into center pull balls and are ready for you to knit from. You can choose to knit from the center or the outside depending on how you want your item to look — darker to lighter or lighter to dark! This yarn pairs well with any of my shawl patterns and would also look wonderful knit up as a cowl or scarf. The long color repeats blend from one color to the next.
