What to stash this week: The yarn Imitation Game

Bletchley5

There’s no imitation for this new release: the Bletchley Collection, from Eden Cottage Yarns and designer Joanne Scrace, is inspired by early computing and encoding machines, the codes themselves, and the women who operated them at Bletchley Park (yes, the place from that Benedict Cumberbatch film). The knit and crochet designs, which have a bit of ‘40s flair, utilize Victoria’s Milburn 4ply yarn range, a blend of British BFL and silk. The collection includes print patterns, kits and a print book due to be released on Jan. 30 that is available for preorder.

A couple of sales that run only through today and Sunday:

KnittingArtistOrange

The Knitting Artist has added four new cards, which have a more abstract design, to her collection. Everything in her Etsy shop is 20% off through Sunday, Dec. 14, with the code SBSAT.

Inspired by Meriweather Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame, and John Wesley Powell, Sarah of Sarah’s Spindle has been doing her own exploration of the American West — in yarn. Her River Blues sock yarns, in Merino and Cashmere Merino, come in semi-solid and variegated blues, reflecting the unique character of the great Western Rivers, such as the Colorado, the Rio Grande, the Columbia, and the Yukon.

Sock knitters, take note: Dirty Water DyeWorks has opened sign-ups for Yarn Knot Socks, a yarn club dedicated to socks. Installments will ship in the middle of January, February and March, and each will contain a different yarn base, an exclusive colorway and a suggested pattern. There will also be KALs in the Dirty Water DyeWorks Ravelry group. The installments can be paid for individually, just before they ship, or all at once. Space is limited, so sign up soon.

Swiss indie yarn company Siidegarte has teamed up with online yarn shop KayaLana and designer Coralie from Stitch-N-Smile for the Xmas ’14 edition of the Swiss Delights Yarn Kit. The kit contains the pattern for Coralie’s Myrtille shawl and Siide-Fideel, a fingering-weight, silk-Merino yarn in an exclusive colorway. Orders for the kit — which come in both a “classic” size with enough yarn to knit the shawl as shown, and a “luxury” version with 250 grams of of yarn — will be taken until Monday, Dec. 15.

If you missed out on Bijou Basin Ranch‘s post-Thanksgiving sale, there are still deals to be had. Through Dec. 23, the entire online store is 20% off, shipping is free, and you can get a free gift with a qualifying purchase. Use it for the newish Outlander-inspired project kit, or three new color ways of Tibetan Dream, hand-dyed by BBR’s Eileen Koop.

Blanchefleur

The newly released Blanchefleur Shawl from KarenDawn Designs includes a unique “faux nupp,” made by increasing to five stitches from one stitch. The triangular shawl, knit with fingering-weight yarn in two colors is named for an Old French and Middle English love story with a happy ending.
