Collaborative Kit with Murky Depths Dyeworks

This week’s update is brought to you by two Indie Untangled makers who have teamed up to bring you the Koi Pond kit.

Alisa Beer of KnitSpinQuilt and Debbie Bresler of Murky Depths Dyeworks both live and work in New York City, and, ironically, met on Ravelry.

Alisa and Deb have teamed up to create a exclusive, limited-edition kit that spoke to both of them. It features one skein of fingering-weight yarn, dyed by Deb, and one medium drawstring project bag, sewn by Alisa. In line with Alisa’s habit of donating to charitable causes, 10% of the purchase price of each kit will be donated to RAICES to help in the ongoing effort to reunite migrant children with their parents. If all the kits sell out they will donate an additional 5% to RAICES for the excellent work they are doing in these troubled times.

When Deb suggested an aquatic theme, Alisa went on a deep dive (hah!) looking for the perfect fabric. After some consultation, she ended up with a subtle dark teal with kelp foliage and flashes of tonal and bright orange fish. The tops of the bags are a coordinating geometric print that Alisa bought on a whim, and which ended up being just what was needed to pull it all together.

The bags are made of 100% Kona Cotton — a fabric that is slightly denser and sturdier than most quilting fabrics, which is Alisa’s go-to for her bags. The bags are long wearing and machine washable. The ties are grosgrain ribbon, and each bag has a key ring you can attach a lanyard or carabiner hook to. The medium size bag is Alisa’s best seller and at 10” x 7” x 3” is big enough to hold three skeins of yarn.

The yarn is Murky Depths Deep Sock, a squishy 80% Merino/20% Nylon Superwash 3-ply that’s perfect for socks but next to skin soft — suitable for garments and accessories. Each skein is 100 grams/400 yards. This exclusive colorway was developed specially to match the project bag. In keeping with Deb’s moody style, the yarn is dyed in multiple tonal layers with little pops of goldfish orange peeking through.

This kit will be available for preorder from October 5 until October 25, and will start shipping on November 25. We know that’s a bit of time to wait, but we need to be certain we can deliver the highest-quality product possible, so we’re setting a conservative timeline to be sure! Additional options exist to substitute a large drawstring bag or add an additional skein of the yarn.
