Introducing Sandpiper Yarns

Sandpiper yarns is inspired by nature and the colors that surround us. My fiber is sourced from family farms, both domestic and abroad. I hand paint fleece roving and then spin it on my Ladybug wheel, all in my home, two blocks from the ocean on the south shore of Long Island. I choose many sheep breeds, including Merino, Blue Faced Leicester, Polwarth, Finn, Gotland, Icelandic, Corriedale and Targhee. Additionally, alpaca, llama, Tencel, silk and Angora may also find their way into my skeins.

My dyeing process combines hand mixing many colors and then overdyeing for rich saturation. Each small colorway batch is one-of-a-kind and produces between two to 10 skeins per batch.

All Sandpiper yarns are handspun. The spinning process is spontaneous —- deciding in the moment whether it will be bulky, worsted or in between! It is a meditative technique that allows me to be part of a sustainable cycle of turning fleece to garment that has endured for thousands of years!
