The limited edition “Tulips” colorway is new this week. Back in the fall of 2006, I remember walking into the hardware store and seeing this big, beautiful display of tulip bulbs. I was immediately transported to one of my favorite memories from my youth when I visited the Skagit Valley tulip festival in Washington state and immediately fell head over heels in love with tulips. The moment I laid eyes on that hardware store display, I just had to have some bulbs for myself. I knew exactly where I wanted to plant them in our newly-purchased home.
The only problem was that I was about six weeks pregnant (sick), the mother to a busy 4-year-old, and a full time music teacher.
I was beyond exhausted.
I knew there was no possible way I could summon up the energy to plant those bulbs myself, but I bought them anyway! They sat on the counter taunting me, and for the next couple of weekends I felt terribly guilty for not getting them in the ground. Seeing my distress, and knowing how much I loved tulips, my sweet husband rescued them and planted them in our front garden bed for me that fall.
On March 29, 2007, we arrived home from the birthing center with our new baby girl to see the very first pink tulip blooming in our front yard. Every year when my tulips bloom I think of this story. It makes me love tulips even more! This year I decided to try and capture my bed of tulips in a limited-edition colorway called “Tulips.” It’s a little out of the norm for me, but I think it captures the essence of this memory, and it makes me smile. I hope you like it, too.
