I love knitting and designing hats. They’re portable, useful (especially in New England winters) and a great way to try out new techniques.
In Stepstone, I combined some of my favorite things, a sideways band, a woolly yarn and elongated slip stitches.
First the band is knit flat, then stitches are picked up for the body and crown. The button flap is worked last.
This is a fast and fun knit.
This design uses ~150 yards of sportweight yarn and two 3/4″ buttons. I used Swans Island All American Sport in hibiscus with buttons from Katrinkles Knitting Jewelry.
