Welcome to the Murky Depths

Wouldn’t it be fun…? Famous last words. A sudden whim to spend my 2016 winter vacation dyeing some yarn. A new way to indulge my fiber addiction, as if knitting, crocheting and machine knitting wasn’t enough. Oops! By day two, I was making silent deals with myself that if I still loved this in a year I’d open a shop.

Fast forward 18 months — I’ve spent every spare minutes up to my elbows in blue rubber gloves, developing color formulas, testing new techniques, trying new bases. My passion for color and my need to experiment grows with each passing week.

And this spring, Murky Depths Dyeworks was born. I’m currently stocking seven bases, with new colors and bases coming all the time. I’d like to introduce you to just a few:

Deep Sock: 80% Superwash Merino/20% nylon, a soft, springy 2-ply yarn with great stitch definition. Next-to-skin softness makes it perfect for garments and added nylon makes it suitable for socks and other hard wearing items.

Harbour Singles Fingering: 100% Superwash Merino, a tightly twisted single with a soft halo and slight sheen.

Triton MCN DK: 80% Superwash Merino/10% Cashmere/10% nylon, because a little Cashmere makes everything better! This one is so soft and squishy, I can barely keep my hands off it.

Sanctuary Worsted: 100% Merino. While Superwash wool has its place, I knew I wanted to go with an untreated base for this. Nothing beats the cozy softness of a warm sweater, hat or pair of mittens when the winter winds are blowing.

I look forward to sharing more of my passion in the weeks and months to come.
