Showing Dragonfly Fibers

It’s been a busy spring at Dragonfly Fibers! A few weeks back, we introduced a lustrous new laceweight – a stunning mohair-silk blend we call Faerie. There are so many patterns that feature a yarn like this, but we especially love Elton by Joji Locatelli and Birds of a Feather by Andrea Mowry. Here it is shown in Peach Melba.

We’re so excited for LYS Day on April 27th! Casapinka is once again creating a special design that will be free with yarn purchase! It’s a pullover shawl called Magical Thinking, and we are offering five options in our squishy Dragon Sock. You can find pictures of all of the kits and a list of participating shops here.

Be sure to get out and support your favorite LYS (or two or three!) on Saturday!

One short week later, Maryland Sheep & Wool will be taking over the fairgrounds in West Friendship, Maryland! As always, we’ll be in the Lower Outside Corral with loads of yarn, fiber and kits. We’ll also have our show exclusive colorway, Carroll Creek Park. Quantities are limited, so be sure to come early for the best selection!

Happy spring knitting and crochet from all of us at Dragonfly Fibers!

When we sat down to discuss planning for the 2019 Club Dragonfly, we decided that it would be helpful to get feedback from current and past club subscribers. The responses we got were very useful! In some ways: it confirmed what we assumed – subscribers love our colorways. ???? We had provided patterns designed specifically for the colorway. Many people enjoyed them, but the consensus seemed to be that Ravelry’s seemingly endless selection provided enough options. Finally, everyone loves the swag option. (We offer a bonus accessory – examples from past years include a small dish from Creative with Clay, a pin from Crafty Flutterby Creations, project bags from That Clever Clementine, a colorspun necklace from Middle Brook Fiberworks and a lotion bar from Love+Leche.

A sample of 2018’s colorways is above. Not shown is Persephone, which is a beautiful sage green with hints of gold. It was dyed on Djinni, our fingering weight MCN. Note that there are six shipments. Also, members have the option to order more of any colorway when they fall in love. As you can see, both the colorways and base yarns we use vary each month.

We’ve never had a theme before, but after a long year of upheaval, natural disasters (we have a Carolina colorway that is a charity fundraiser through December 31) and more, it seemed appropriate to pay tribute to our wonderful continent.

Next year’s colorways will be inspired by the many and varied cities and landmarks that make North America unique and its people special. We’ll be crowdsourcing, too! If you have a picture of a beautiful area that you love, please send it to us! Maybe we’ll use it for one of the colorways! In lieu of including a pattern that are designed specifically for the club selection, we will be offering suggestions for patterns to use with the yarn. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced knitter or crocheter! There will be pattern ideas with a range of skill levels and styles included with each shipment.

We are offering two options: with swag ($235 annually) or without swag ($200 annually). The first shipment is in mid-January and subsequent shipments are ever other month. Sign up on our website.

Happy holidays one and all! Here’s to a happy and healthy 2019!

Dragonfly Fibers is so excited for fall! Of course, fall means fiber festivals, and we’ll be busy, busy with shows near and far over the next few months!

Before we give you a rundown of our upcoming events (and kits and colorways and more), we want to express our heartfelt sympathy to everyone who has been impacted by Hurricane Florence. We know that it may take a while for the hardest-hit areas to come back, and we want to help in our own little way. We have created a new colorway, Carolina. It is a permanent addition to our colorways, but through the month of December, 25% of our sales will go to the organization Global Giving. For now, it’s available in Djinni, Pixie and Traveller. It will be dyed on more bases soon. It’s also listed on our website. It will make its debut this weekend at Shenandoah Valley Fiber Festival this weekend! We’ll be in our usual spot in the Dairy Barn.

We had a lovely trunk show at one of our own LYSes, Looped Yarn Works, a couple of weeks back. The highlight of the event was the release of a new pattern from Tanis Gray, Tracye’s Cowl. It’s a quick one-skein project in Super Traveller and another great gift idea. The colorway, Purple with a Purpose, represents our partnership with Project Knitwell. It’s a D.C.-based organization that uses knitting as a therapeutic tool to help people who are facing challenges in their lives. 50% of sales will be donated to this outstanding organization. You can find this kit at Shenandoah this weekend, too!

Designer Andrea Mowry continues to amaze us with her creativity. We have kits for her Find Your Fade shawl and Comfort Fade Cardi, including a brand-new combo-Winter Woods, Black Pearl, Starry Night and Golden Compass.

Now her latest design, The Throwback is taking the knitting world by storm! (Credit for the above photo is to Andrea Mowry. The yarn shown in design on the model is not Dragonfly Fibers.) We have four combos available for pre-order. We won’t have the kits available at Shenandoah but we will have them at Rhinebeck (more on that below).

You will need more than four skeins for either of these cardigans, and we can help you figure it out depending on your size.

We were blown away by the stunning Ixchel Pullover by Catherine Clark on the cover of the latest Pom Pom Quarterly. We have kits available in Djinni in Winterfell and Golden Compass. We will have them at Shenandoah, Rhinebeck and SAFF as well.

If you’re looking for quick gift ideas, we’ve got you covered! We’re excited to introduce Team Spirit kits featuring popular color combinations for many high schools and colleges. Even if you don’t support a school or team, you can mix and match to your heart’s content! Co-owner Nancye has designed an easily customizable hat pattern that is free with kit purchase. The pattern will also be free with purchase at our upcoming shows.

Another fun project are the fingerless mitts called Falling Stars, designed by our talented wholesale manager, Susan. We have created some great combos, or you can make your own. This pattern is also free with yarn purchase at upcoming shows.

The granddaddy of fall shows is New York Sheep and Wool, AKA Rhinebeck. We can’t wait to head back to Building 39 over the weekend of October 20th-21st. We’ll have yarn, kits galore and our show exclusive colorway, Village of Rhinebeck. Supplies are limited, so come early if you want to grab one (or two or three…).

We’ll also be at SAFF in the Davis Arena over the weekend of October 26th-28th. We’ll have an exclusive colorway, Hipster, plus all the kits mentioned above.

The following weekend, we’ll be parterning with the great ladies who own Yarnover Truck, who will be featuring our yarn (and an exclusive colorway called Kaleidoscope) at STITCHES SoCal in Pasadena, November 1st-4th. Be sure to stop by and see them!

Four Purls Yarn Shop, a lovely shop in Winter Haven, Florida, will be at the Magical Fiber Fantasy Retreat from November 7th-10th in Lake Buena Vista. Find our yarn in their booth in the marketplace at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

Last but not least, we’ll be having a trunk show at Second Story Knits in Bethesda, Maryland, on Saturday, November 10th!

Hope to see you in person or supporting one of our shop partners this fall! Happy crafting!

Dragonfly Fibers recently released two beautiful new yarns that are perfect for warm-weather knitting.

Dharma is our gorgeous new light fingering weight. It’s 50% yak and 50% silk, so you can imagine how this will feel on your needles and against your skin. Dharma a generous 480 yards per skein. You can find it on our website here.

Selkie Sport is a soft and supple combination of 70% BFL and 30% Mulberry Silk. 340 yards per skein, so you can work up an accessory with one skein! Selkie Sport is available on our website here.

If you’re coming to Maryland Sheep and Wool, you can see both of these yarns and lots more in our booth (Outside Lower Corral) on May 6th and 7th!

The team at Dragonfly Fibers are inspired by color, but that’s not all. For this book, Kate Chiocchio and Nancye Bonomo of Dragonfly started by choosing paintings they loved that represented the full color spectrum of modern art.

Their goal was not an exact match between paintings and yarn; rather, they created colorways that best express what they appreciate about the works used.

Whether it’s bold blocks of color melding together at the edges of a Rothko (and attempting to create a similar effect on Dragonfly yarn) or challenging designers to develop knitwear inspired by particular works of art, Masterpiece Knits will surprise and delight you!

Dragonfly Fibers specializes in saturated, sophisticated and wearable colorways. Our club is known for great accessories in exclusive colorways. Shipments are in January, March, May, July, September and November. This year’s designers include Kirsten Kapur, Miriam Felton and Andi Smith and the club is available with or without swag!

Check out last year’s designs and colorways in the photos.

Pricing info available on the website.
