Showing Nutmeg Fibers

Enrollment is now open for Session 2 of the DyeSigner Alliance!

Our second session again features two amazing women in the yarn world right now! Their collaboration with us here at Nutmeg Fiber Arts will ship in August, but you must register now.

Our indie dyer is Brooke Sinnes of Sincere Sheep! She’s created something special just for Session 2 of our DyeSigner Alliance for you all! Located in the wine-growing region of Napa, CA, Sincere Sheep continues to be inspired and guided by the concept of terroir. Both wool and natural dyes are agricultural products that depend upon and reflect their environment. Factors during the annual growing cycle such as water, grass, weather and stewardship all impact the quality of the wool clip and plant harvest. You will see the effects in the subtle variation of colors and textures of yarn from year to year. All Sincere Sheep yarn and fiber is dyed using color extracted from plants (and periodically from insects). Dyes are responsibly sourced; some dyestuffs are locally gathered leaves and flowers, as well as agricultural and food “waste” that can be used a second time for their dye properties.

Our Indie designer is Julie Robinson who goes by @julieatwork on Ravelry and Instagram, and creates truly amazing, textural knitting designs. This is the second time we’ve worked with Julie, as she was featured in Issue 4 of our NF Magazine! She’s working hard right now to create a special pattern just for this club, meant to be used with Brooke’s special colorway. We are so thrilled to have Julie join us again for Session 2 of our DyeSigner Alliance!

Session 2 will ship out to you in August, after the dyer and designer have had the time to prepare the lovely items for you all.

Our new way to support the yarn makers you love, and the indie designers that make that yarn look even more amazing!

We are excited to begin this new collaboration with Indie Dyers and Designers….the DyeSigner Alliance. When you join us for Session 2, you’ll receive your DyeSigner Alliance Kit from us in August! In it will be two skeins of the featured dyer’s yarn, alongside a custom pattern created with this yarn in mind and a small thank you gift from Nutmeg! See our Additional Info for how the DyeSigner Alliance works to benefit everyone involved!

We’ve already had an amazing response to the first few weeks of Session 1 of the DyeSigner Alliance, but some of you may be wondering how this yarn club works:

Designers receive pay for every single member enrolled, just as they would when people purchase their designs off Ravelry! That means that the more people that enroll, the more benefit the amazing indie designer receives!

Dyers are paid at a much higher consignment rate rather than a wholesale rate for their work…meaning a kit/club event like this has a chance to be much more beneficial project after all their hard work than a traditional wholesale arrangement allows for.

Help Nutmeg Fiber Arts support the continued work of wonderful indie dyers and designers with our DyeSigner Alliance!!! Session 1 registration is open now until February 7th, and will ship out in early April to you!!!! Included in your kit are two skeins of Camellia Fiber Co. yarn, Dawn Henderson’s Original Design and a special gift from Nutmeg Fiber Arts!

For all the details, check out the full page listing below!

Hello all! I’ve been working with an amazing tech editor/grader to help me offer even more size options for my first sweater pattern that debuted last spring. It’s available now on Ravelry, with bust size options from 32″ to 60″, with 7″ of positive ease built in to the design of this cropped sweater. From now until October 12th on Ravelry, the Stella Crop Sweater pattern will be $2 off to celebrate!

About nine months ago, I began to explore possibilities for a cellulose based yarn here at Nutmeg Fiber Arts. From talking with shop owners, knitters, mills and more, I began to go through samples of possible combinations for the perfect addition to our Nutmeg Fibers family of yarn bases. Playing with dye on cellulose fibers for the first time was a big learning curve, and I wanted the final product to be soft and smooth, but not that roughness that 100% cotton can bring. Something that had a little more of something special in it to give a smoothness and lovely drape to the yarn. That’s where the linen came in. After lots of test knitting from myself and my amazing helper Young Mi Park, I settled on these two new beautiful bases: Meadow and Meadow Jr.

Both have a fiber content of 75% U.S. cotton (grown in Virginia on family farms with ethical practices) plus 25% French linen, of the finest quality. Meadow is a larger, 3-ply DK weight, while Meadow Jr. is a bit smaller, 2-ply and sock or sport weight.

I can’t wait to see some beautiful pieces being knit up in these! I’m thinking shawl, I’m thinking held double with our Retreat base… lots of ideas!!! Can’t wait!

And, as a special incentive to those of you on our Nutmeg Fiber Arts mailing list and in our Instagram community, we’re offering a preorder period from tonight at 6 p.m. CST until September 25 at midnight. Preordered skeins will be shipped 2-3 weeks after our order window closes, before the skeins are available to the general public!

We hope that you give a lot of love to this new base! Available in seven stunning colorways.
