Big news from Toby Roxane Designs — you already know and love the patterns, now meet my brand new line of luxury hand-dyed yarns!

From now until January 15th, take 20% off all patterns and ebooks in my Ravelry shop and 17% off all yarn on my website! Use the code INWITHTHENEW upon checkout in either shop.

I’ve always loved designing with hand-dyed yarns, so it was a natural step for me to begin dyeing my own. Being truly passionate about color, I find color inspiration in the usual places, like autumn leaves and the sky before it rains, but also in unexpected places: from rusty railroad ties to a batch of unbaked blueberry scones.

In shades from the subtlest neutrals to the splashiest neons, everyone is sure to find something they’re passionate about.

Starshowers is the third installment in my themed shawl club. This year we journey along the Silk Road:

On clear dark nights, I often sit,
and spend a quiet hours wake,
just marveling at the sky above,
so infinite so deep and dark.
the countless stars revolve in silence
and here I lay, a tiny thing,
all insignificant and small
under the milky way so tall.

If ever you’ve beheld the stars
beyond mountains or in deserts far,
you know what wonder I describe,
it silences the busy mind.

This asymmetrical crescent shaped shawl uses short rows to create the illusion of sweeping stars and star showers above, and gradient yarn colors to evoke the nightsky with just a hint of light at dawn, and the milky way still visible overhead.

It’s not too late to join the club! Starshowers is the third installment of Silk Road 2016 Shawl Club: Explorer featuring 4 full size shawl designs and 1 smaller holiday surprise (there are 2 clubs, the Wayfarer and the Explorer paths! This is from the Explorer path) and is available as part of the pattern club for $30 on Ravelry.

As a club member you will get these fabulous patterns before anyone else can get them, and you enjoy a member exclusive 10% off coupon good on any of my patterns or collections, all year!

The team at Dragonfly Fibers are inspired by color, but that’s not all. For this book, Kate Chiocchio and Nancye Bonomo of Dragonfly started by choosing paintings they loved that represented the full color spectrum of modern art.

Their goal was not an exact match between paintings and yarn; rather, they created colorways that best express what they appreciate about the works used.

Whether it’s bold blocks of color melding together at the edges of a Rothko (and attempting to create a similar effect on Dragonfly yarn) or challenging designers to develop knitwear inspired by particular works of art, Masterpiece Knits will surprise and delight you!

This month brings us the last ECY update for 2015, and lots of news for you.

First of all there’s the new hand dyed yarn — primarily Bowland DK (100% superwash British Bluefaced Leicester) and BFL Sock (also 100% superwash British BFL). Also look out for our gorgeous hand-carved shawl pins and sheep straight from our woodturner friend in Japan.

Next up, we’re having a sale on our lovely Askham 4ply — this baby alpaca/silk yarn is super-fine and soft, with 200m to each 50g ball and reduced by 25%, it’s a great oppurtunity to stock up on sweater quantities. Speaking of which, we also offer 10% off (automatically applied) when you purchase 500g or more of Milburn 4ply, Askham 4ply, Whitfell DK, or Whitfell Chunky. We thought it’d be helpful for those larger projects! This leads me to saying that we now have a limited quantity of the lovely Whitfell DK (100% baby alpaca) in Steel, and Whitfell Chunky (also 100% baby alpaca) in Natural and Steel. Look out for Maya’s Shawl by Justyna Lorkowska on Ravelry, as that is a beautiful new pattern which uses three 100g balls/skeins of Whitfell Chunky.

What else…? We now have five colours of our ever-popular Milburn 4ply (superwash British BFL/Silk) available in balls as well as skeins. We thought it would be great to be able to pick it up and cast on immediately — plus it looks neater!

Stuck for a gift for a knitting friend (or yourself)? Our Drift Collection books would be a great gift — it’s a pretty hefty tome, with plenty of patterns to choose from and lots of lush photography.

Finally, may I remind you that we offer free UK shipping on orders over £50 and free international shipping on orders over £100. Customers outside the EU — once you put your address in our website does also take the 20% UK sales tax off for you.

I’m a life-long book collector. In addition to piles of books of knitting, fiction, art, counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, gardening, as well as a fair number of other things, I have always been attracted to stitch dictionaries, and little books of patterns on a given theme. All three motifs in these designs came from a slim volume of Swedish stranded colorwork designs that I’ve had so long that I no longer know where or when I acquired it. Once I had these lovely motifs working together, I needed a name for the cowl design. I thought that something Swedish would be appropriate. A dear friend of mine is actually from Sweden, so I went to her for inspiration. Without my telling her, she thought the main motif looked like berries, and so suggested Vinterbär for the cowl, which is Swedish for “winter berries.” When going for a name for the coordinating mitten pattern, Björnbär, I named it after the blackberries that grow wild around my house. I named this small leaflet after the main berry motif used in both designs, with a twist. It’s also in Swedish.

Both designs are knit in the round, and feature the same three stranded colorwork motifs, though the main motif on the back of the mittens has been slightly modified to work on a hand. The mittens can be worked whatever method best suits the knitter: DPNs, two circulars, magic loop, or anything else that gets the job done.

The six knitting projects in this collection are based on the enchanting medieval story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Five stunning, crescent-shaped shawls represent the five knightly virtues symbolized on Gawain’s shield (Generosity, Fellowship, Chastity, Courtesy, and Piety), with an additional sixth project based upon the magical belt (the Green Girdle) that replaces Gawain’s shield later in the story. Included along with the patterns is a summary of the text as well as a discussion of the role of Gawain’s shield and the Green Girdle in both the story itself as well as in the patterns.

The collection is available in both print and electronic formats.

Eden Cottage Yarns and Joanne Scrace have collaborated on a brand new collection for the Milburn 4ply yarn range, a luxury blend of 85% British Bluefaced Leicester and 15% silk. Encompassing both knitting and crochet patterns, the collection showcases the versatility of this beautiful yarn.

Passionate about knitting for a purpose, Victoria and Joanne were keen that the designs had a strong emphasis on wearable, everyday wardrobe staples to take you through every season. Milburn is just too nice to knit something and pop it in a drawer for safe keeping. This lustrous and silky yarn cries out to be worn at every opportunity.

The Bletchley Collection explores early computing and encoding machines and the codes themselves, along with the women that operated them. Drawing on these influences, the shapes and styles in the patterns are a nod to the 1940s, reworked in a modern way to make them wearable for current times.

Comprising both knitted and crocheted designs and with skill levels from easy through to intermediate, there is something to suit all abilities, tastes and budgets.

Everything Bletchley related is now available on the Eden Cottage Yarns website – there are print patterns, kits, and pre-orders for the print book. The print patterns and book come with a complimentary digital copy. The book is due to be released on the 30th of January and we will be posting out pre-ordered copies to hopefully arrive on the day (postal systems depending).

The kits for the cardigans cleverly enable you to choose both your colour AND sizing, to ensure you get the correct quantity of yarn for your project.

We are celebrating the holiday weekend with lots of deals!
