What to stash this week: Sheep to soulmates

So many of us have found our kindred spirits through the fiber world. So, I knew you’d love the love story behind Yankee Rock Farm, which is supplying the yarn for the April installment of Indie Untangled’s Heritage Wool Collective subscription — a club that pairs breed-specific yarn with the magic of hand-dyed color.
Siri and Colin grew up in New England, each with their own flock: Siri raised Finns and Border Cheviots in Vermont’s Addison County,…

What to stash this week: Life’s a beach-y Advent

Tanya of Cornbread and Honey has been dyeing yarn for a decade and she is celebrating in festive fashion. To help get us through this brutal winter, Tanya is creating four yarn Advent color palettes, all themed around Life’s a Beach. To prepare, she’s offering them well in advance of the 2025 holiday season. Each one will contain 24 20-gram mini skeins in a traditional fade — think lots of variegated and speckled colorways — plus a coordinating full skein in either fingering-weight or DK Merino/nylon yarn….

What to stash this week: Such colors

At Vogue Knitting Live in NYC, I introduced a limited-edition version of WoolDreamers’ Guirra yarn, created with Spanish Guirra and Merino wool and transformed by Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks. We named it Kingdom of Spain, inspired by a song from my favorite band, and I’m so excited to share that it’s now available in the Indie Untangled online shop!
If you’re a Hallmark movie fan,…
What to stash this week: Of Montreal

Here’s another great knitting trip to add to your list: Montreal with Explore Knitting Tours. From August 1–5, knitting instructor Marny Kindness and tour guide Lynn Ruggieri are putting together an amazing trip to the “Paris of North America.” You’ll stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, take in the breathtaking Notre Dame Basilica, check out the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and eat your way through a food walking tour. There’s even a stop at the Maisonneuve Market for a little French-inspired shopping. …
What to stash this week: Birthday year

I’m closing it out with the 10th and final colorway from Mary of 29 Bridges Studio. Based in Maryland (the company name is inspired by Mary’s hometown of Pittsburgh, the city of bridges), Mary has been a regular Indie Untangled vendor since the all-virtual show in 2020 and she and her husband Mike have been friendly faces in person at the October pre-Rhinebeck show since 2021.
Mary’s floral-inspired colorway, Damascena will be dyed on a non-Superwash Merino Sock and an organic non-Superwash DK….
What to stash this week: Sheep and the city

Several months ago, at h+h americas, I learned that the Spanish mill WoolDreamers had created yarn from the Guirra sheep, a breed native to the Valencian Community, on the east side of the Iberian Peninsula. The natural yarn is a cream color with a reddish hue. It was beautiful on its own, but I couldn’t help but wonder how it would look dyed, so I asked Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks if she wanted to take a crack at it….

One of the best traditions of the annual Indie Untangled Rhinebeck show is the make-along. This year, we received more than 160 entries in seven categories.

What to stash this week: Get your mitts on this yarn

2025 brings another array of breed-specific skeins for the Heritage Wool Collective hand-dyed yarn subscription and I’m excited to kick it off with Kat of Why Knot Fibers
Kat is the perfect dyer for this project: She already works with local farmers and mills to curate interesting wool blends and “shepherds” them through construction and processing, with an eye toward bringing out the unique characteristics of each breed. For the February shipment,…

What to stash this week: Winter lights

Here are some northern lights you don’t have to chase: Robyn of TeenyButton Studio has based this month’s Indie Untangled Knitting Our National Parks colorway on a photo of this glowing phenomenon over Denali National Park in Alaska (which definitely doesn’t have the light pollution of NYC!). Denali Borealis is available to preorder on two bases, Soft Sock, a 75/25 Merino/nylon blend and Soft DK, with 100% fine Superwash Merino.
Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks has restocked the custom-milled 2-ply Cormo sportweight yarnthat she debuted at Indie Untangled in October….
