Our September box will feature tuck stitches with a new design from Faye Kennington of UkeeKnits. If you do a quick web search you’ll find that there are a variety of knitting techniques referred to as “tuck stitch.” The technique we’re focusing on for this box is a cluster stitch that is created when a stitch from a row below, with an associated yarn over, is incorporated into the current row. If you’ve ever worked a brioche knit stitch, you might recognize this concept, as brioche is a tuck-based fabric. By varying the number of rows below that are included in the stitch cluster, changing colours between rows, and alternating or stacking cluster stitches, the possibilities extend beyond brioche! Tuck stitches create a textured surface, ranging from pleasing clusters to an all-over quilted or welted effect.
