What to stash this week: Birthday year

A single skein of yarn next to its unraveled strands. The yarn is hand-dyed with vibrant shades of magenta, plum, orange and pink, with subtle tonal variations.

I’m closing it out with the 10th and final colorway from Mary of 29 Bridges Studio. Based in Maryland (the company name is inspired by Mary’s hometown of Pittsburgh, the city of bridges), Mary has been a regular Indie Untangled vendor since the all-virtual show in 2020 and she and her husband Mike have been friendly faces in person at the October pre-Rhinebeck show since 2021.

Mary’s floral-inspired colorway, Damascena will be dyed on a non-Superwash Merino Sock and an organic non-Superwash DK….

What to stash this week: Sheep and the city

A collection of yarn skeins arranged on a wooden surface. The colors include natural cream with red undertones, soft lavender, deep red, mustard yellow, and olive green. Loose yarn strands in a neutral cream shade are spread in the background.

Several months ago, at h+h americas, I learned that the Spanish mill WoolDreamers had created yarn from the Guirra sheep, a breed native to the Valencian Community, on the east side of the Iberian Peninsula. The natural yarn is a cream color with a reddish hue. It was beautiful on its own, but I couldn’t help but wonder how it would look dyed, so I asked Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks if she wanted to take a crack at it….

What to stash this week: Get your mitts on this yarn

Three light-skinned people standing in front of a neon sign that reads "Coyote Run Fiberworks." They are each holding spools of spun yarn.

2025 brings another array of breed-specific skeins for the Heritage Wool Collective hand-dyed yarn subscription and I’m excited to kick it off with Kat of Why Knot Fibers

Kat is the perfect dyer for this project: She already works with local farmers and mills to curate interesting wool blends and “shepherds” them through construction and processing, with an eye toward bringing out the unique characteristics of each breed. For the February shipment,…

What to stash this week: Winter lights

A wave of electric green light swirls in a blue sky above snow-covered mountains and spruce trees. Hand-dyed yarn in deep indigo, vibrant green and bright blue hues.

Here are some northern lights you don’t have to chase: Robyn of TeenyButton Studio has based this month’s Indie Untangled Knitting Our National Parks colorway on a photo of this glowing phenomenon over Denali National Park in Alaska (which definitely doesn’t have the light pollution of NYC!). Denali Borealis is available to preorder on two bases, Soft Sock, a 75/25 Merino/nylon blend and Soft DK, with 100% fine Superwash Merino.

Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks has restocked the custom-milled 2-ply Cormo sportweight yarnthat she debuted at Indie Untangled in October….

What to stash this week: Floribunda

A collection of hand-dyed yarn skeins in rich shades of purple, pink, and cream tones.

Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks has created Floribunda — a nod to her prolific upstate NY garden — in honor of Indie Untangled’s 10th anniversary. This special colorway is available on two luxurious Merino/Cashmere/nylon bases in fingering and DK. You can preorder it until next Sunday, December 15.

Michelle of Olive & Two Ewe Studios is organizing another “Yarny Ewes” trip to Scotland next year and spots are filling up….

What to stash this week: 10 years of Where We Knit

A collage of four images: A cozy A-frame cabin in a snowy forested mountain setting. A wooden weaving loom set up outdoors on a blanket spread out on grass and calm water in the background. A dramatic sunset over a mountain range. The sky is filled with vibrant colors of orange, pink, and purple, contrasted by darker clouds and rugged peaks below. A rustic stone fireplace with a fire burning inside.

I’m thrilled to open sign-ups today for Where We Knit 2025 and introduce you to more talented makers. The 10th (!) year of this quarterly club, which will begin shipping in February, brings together four dyer/designer teams:

February
The Frosted Stitch and Arianna Frasca

May
Sea Change Fibers and Salt & Stone Knits

August
Big Little Yarn Co. and Thien-Kieu Lam

November

A pink cabled hat.

Mitchell Wool Co is launching a KAL today for the newly-released Nouverie Hat from Fox & Fig Knits, featuring gorgeous cables. What to stash this week: Yarn joy

Several skeins of hand-dyed yarn in shades of purple, pink, and cream, arranged together on a wooden surface. The yarn has a variegated color pattern with deep purple, soft pink, and lighter areas blending together. Around the yarn are light pink flowers.

I first started working with Terri of AT Haynes House Yarns in 2020, when we were in the throes of the pandemic and connecting through virtual shows. Terri and her husband Brian brought much-needed joy during those those marathon Zooms. When we started gathering in person again, the AT Haynes House booth was always a party, filled with dancing, laughter, infectious smiles and, of course, gorgeous hand-dyed yarn.

Terri is once again providing some joy with this month’s Indie Untangled anniversary colorway….

What to stash this week: A woolly flame

Skeins of orange yarn.

Earlier this year, I had an incredible opportunity to collaborate with Clara Parkes, the New York Times-bestselling author (KnitlandiaVanishing Fleece) and self-proclaimed “yarn whisperer” and “wool ambassador.” Robin of Birch Hollow Fibers and I met up with Clara in the Berkshires where she unloaded hundreds of skeins from a rented van.

The result of this collaboration debuted this month through the bi-monthly Heritage Wool Collective Hand-dyed Yarn subscription….
