Join Indie Untangled for a seven-day journey through the Faroe Islands! Taking place June 6–12, 2027, this small-group adventure explores the islands through their deep connection to sheep, wool and knitting, traveling from Tórshavn to remote villages, working sheep farms, historic wool mills and contemporary design studios.
Alongside fellow fiber lovers, and led by Indie Untangled founder Lisa Chamoff in partnership with KnittingTours.com, you’ll learn from local knitters, farmers and craftspeople as you experience Faroese wool and knitting traditions firsthand. With local knitting expert Randi Ravnaborg of Faroeknit as our host, we’ll work on an exclusive project inspired by Faroese traditions, learn to knit traditional skóleistar slippers, visit local yarn producers and discover the close relationship between sheep, landscape and community.
Our itinerary
DAY 1: SUNDAY, JUNE 6, 2027 — WELCOME TO THE FAROE ISLANDS!
• Arrive at Vágar Airport (prior to 9:30 a.m.) for a chauffeur transfer to your hotel.
• A relaxed introduction to the week ahead, with a welcome lunch and an opportunity to meet your tour manager and Randi Ravnaborg of Faroeknit, your woolly adventure inspiring local tour host.
• Join a walking tour through atmospheric heart of Tórshavn, including Tinganes, the historic government quarter known for its red muddled turf-roofed buildings and narrow lanes.
• Return to your hotel and enjoy your first knitting session with Randi. She has created the pattern and project based on Faroese wool and knitting traditions exclusively for this tour.
• Welcome dinner at your hotel.

DAY 2: MONDAY, JUNE 7, 2027 — DAY TRIP TO SUÐUROY — SHEEP, WOOL & LOCAL CRAFT
• After breakfast, travel south by ferry to Suðuroy Island, the southernmost of the main Faroese islands. Enjoy the scenic crossing, with ever-changing views of dramatic islands, open sea and the rugged Faroese coastline. Do not forget to bring your knitting project, there is no better time to relax and knit while taking in the spectacular scenery.
• Visit a working sheep farm in Sumba where you will gain an insight into the close relationship between sheep farming, landscape and Faroese life. The visit brings the raw material behind the country’s knitting traditions to life.
• Continue to a Vesturgarður Showroom and discover the fascinating traditions behind Faroese wool processing and see first-hand how raw wool is carefully transformed into the fibres ready for spinning and knitting. This unique hands-on experience offers an insight into a time-honoured craft, highlighting the skill, care and traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations and bring Faroese wool to life.
• Finish your day with a truly local experience as your host, Randi, welcomes you into her home for home-baked treats and a cosy local knitting gathering. Meet Faroese knitters in a relaxed, welcoming setting, exchange stories and ideas, and discover the traditions and community spirit behind the Faroe Islands’ beloved knitting culture.
• Early dinner at a local bar or restaurant before taking a return ferry to your hotel in Tórshavn.

DAY 3: TUESDAY, JUNE 8, 2027 — TRADITIONAL SKÓLEISTAR KNITTING CLASS & SNÆLDAN MILL

• Learn the traditional Faroese art of knitting skóleistar, knitted slippers, with Karen Sissal Kj. Kristiansen of Shisa Brand. Knitting has a long and cherished history in the Faroe Islands, where many girls learn the craft from an early age. Sissal was no exception, and knitting has remained an important part of her life ever since. With a deep love of knitting and a strong commitment to sustainability, Sissal’s designs combine the rich traditions of Faroese culture with modern innovation. All materials are provided, making this a hands-on opportunity to discover and create your own piece of distinctive Faroese textile heritage.
• After lunch, visit Snældan, one of the Faroese names closely associated with wool and yarn. The mill visit offers a behind-the-scenes look at local yarn production, followed by plenty of time to shop their quality wool and yarn to take home.

DAY 4: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9, 2027 — SASKUN HERITAGE, FAER ISLES DISTILLERY & FAROESE WOOL
• After breakfast, travel to Saksun through historic villages of Hósvík and Hvalvík. Nestled along the scenic Sundini channel north of Tórshavn, these picturesque villages offer an authentic glimpse into Faroese life, with traditional houses and dramatic mountain scenery.
• Discover traditional Faroese rural life at Dúvugarðar, a historic farm in the distinctive landscape of Saksun. A guided tour brings the buildings, farming traditions and everyday life of earlier generations to life, followed by Grab & Go lunch.
• Continue to the Faer Isles Distillery for an exclusive introduction to the flavours of the Faroe Islands. Discover the art of local whisky-making and sample a selection of premium spirits, thoughtfully crafted with locally sourced botanicals and inspired by the islands’ rich culinary traditions.
• Return to Torshavn and visit Ullvøruhúsið, a charming designer shop showcasing an exceptional selection of Faroese wool products, locally crafted pieces, and distinctive materials. Established in 1918 as a traditional yarn and wool-ware shop, this historic space now brings together local brands Steinum and Shisa Brand. With a strong passion for preserving its heritage, Ullvøruhúsið offers a truly authentic Faroese shopping experience, celebrating the islands’ renowned wool traditions, craftsmanship, and contemporary design.

DAY 5: THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 2027 — FARM TO YARN EXPERIENCE
• After breakfast, travel to Lamb.fo located in Selatrað. Discover Faroese culture through close encounters, storytelling, and honest food rooted in tradition, and enjoy a truly authentic farm-to-table experience, featuring locally sourced sheep meat, in a beautiful rural setting. This tour offers an authentic and personal encounter with Faroese farm life, where sheep have been at the heart of daily life and food traditions for five generations. During summer, most sheep roam freely in the mountains, grazing as they always have. However, owners Berghild and Klæmint keep a small group of special sheep closer to the farm, giving you the rare opportunity to meet them up close, feed them by hand, and interact with them in a calm and respectful way.
• Travel back to your hotel. On the way, stop in Navia yarn shop, crafting unique wool blends inspired by tradition and modern style. This is a perfect opportunity to pick up additional yarn or colours for your Faroe inspired projects!
• This evening is at your leisure to relax and join the final informal knitting circle with your wonderful tour host Randi.

DAY 6: FRIDAY, JUNE 11, 2027 — FAROESE DESIGN, NATIONAL MUSEUM & FAREWELL DINNER

• Visit the studio of Gudrun & Gudrun, the Faroese fashion and knitwear label known for its strong connection to natural wool and contemporary Scandinavian design. The design talk (subject to availability) offers insight into how Faroese materials and traditions can be interpreted for a modern audience.
• Next, explore the fascinating collections of traditional Faroese textile arts, clothing, and historic knitting patterns at the National Museum of the Faroe Islands (Tjóðsavnið).
• Continue to Tógvhúsið Yarn Shop, your final opportunity for yarn shopping and to discover further local textile products.
• Celebrate the week with a farewell dinner and drinks at your hotel.

DAY 7: SATURDAY, JUNE 12, 2027 — FAREWELL FAROE ISLANDS!
Enjoy a final breakfast before checking out and taking a chauffeur transfer to Vágar Airport for your return flight.

A deposit of 20% of the total tour price is required to hold your booking. The balance of the tour is due 60 days before arrival and can be made in installment payments on request.
