While January often means packing away holiday decorations and enjoying a cozy winter, here it marks the start of Mardi Gras festivities. Every January 6th, King’s Day, locals eagerly wait in long lines for their first king cake of the season and transform their homes with vibrant Mardi Gras decorations. Although I wasn’t born in New Orleans, after 25 years I’ve fully embraced its festive traditions.
