Scented Stitches Stitch Balms. Scents are Cheer, Power, Calm and Confidence.

This is the third in a series of blog posts featuring the fabulous sponsors of Indie Untangled, taking place on October 18, 2024, in person in Saugerties, NY, and online. In-person tickets are available and selling fast! You can also register for the free online event here.

Scent is a powerful thing. I love wearing knitted items I’ve blocked in delicious-smelling wool wash. Scented Stitches brings that aromatherapy to the crafting process itself — you rub the balm on the parts of your fingers where yarn passes over them as you knit or crochet and breathe in the scent.

Scented Stitches founder Linda was part of the inaugural Indie Untangled Pavilion at the first h+h americas trade show in 2022. At this year’s Indie Untangled show on October 18, attendees will be able to sample the balms while relaxing and crafting in our lounge area.

Tell me the story of how Scented Stitches came to be?

I started Scented Stitches because I am a knitter and I thought that using the Mood Food balms would be a fun way to add scent to projects and also add to the relaxing atmosphere that knitting fosters.

What did you do before you started Mood Food?

I worked in product development, merchandising and fashion: first, designing sweaters and working for the largest sweater factory in China and managing a portion of their USA business. Then I moved into consumer goods like paper crafting, paints and other craft items. Creativity and creation has always been part of what I do.

How do you decide on the scents that you offer?

When I created Mood Food, I thought about situations and problems that could be addressed with essential oils. As it turned out (but this was not part of the original plan), the Aromatherapy Balms seemed to work on situations or physical issues, while the Crystal Balms help with more emotional problems. When I started Scented Stitches, I chose four different but popular balms from the Mood Food Aromatherapy line.

Do you have a favorite scent?

My personal favorite is Power. I love the bracing freshness of the mix of palo santo, ginger and lemon. Calm is far and away our best seller; I think most people like it because it’s lavender based.

Do you have any new scents in the pipeline?

Yes! we’re doing two limited-edition scents for the holidays. One is Unscented, because several people have requested that. It feels a little counterintuitive for a company that is called Scented Stitches, but the base of our balm is super emollient (and vegan!), so people are interested in that. We are also introducing Balance for the holidays. This is one of our Mood Food Crystal Balm scents, but without the crystals. It contains all of the chakra oils and is complex, kind of green and a little bit earthy. It’s also one of my favorite balms.

Which crafts do you enjoy doing?

I love to sew in addition to knitting. I recently painted the vanities in three bathrooms in my house. That was part of a renovation which felt like a lot of different crafts all pulled together. I have recently gone mostly plant based food-wise, so cooking is another “craft” that I’ve been working on.
