What to stash this week: The perfect fall bag

Purple, teal and green tweed bags with rose gold zippers.

I’m so excited to debut the Harris Sling Bag! Hand crafted in Brooklyn in three different colorful Harris Tweed fabrics from the Adabrock Weaving Company in Scotland, these bags are the perfect size to carry around a small accessory project, plus your everyday essentials, with one open and one zippered pocket — I’ve been using mine as a purse. It comes with a size-inclusive leather strap that can adjust from approximately 30″…

What to stash this week: Yarn for the holidays

A collage of photos of a grandfather clock, candelabra, a snowy tree, a woman in a red cloak and a rose under a glass dome.

The holiday countdown calendars from the WoolenWomenFibers crew are inspired by Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas. They include 25 individually-wrapped mini skeins from December 1-24 and a 100g skein, a handmade sock sack by Aggie’s Bags and bonus goodies to open on Christmas Day.

Though Stephen West didn’t set any stitch marker records with this year’s MKAL, Bonnie of Yank Your Yarn has you covered with her (Mostly) Magnetic MKAL Mix Box O’Notions….

What to stash this week: Roots and leaves

A woman models a striped wrap in dark and light greens.

Designer Soraya García is channeling autumn with one of her favorite designs to date. Sori’s Paradisia Wrap has a sagittal shape inspired by tree roots and the veins of leaves. It’s knit with a variegated and semisolid color in the same weight or a contrasting weight — she used a single-ply Merino and a laceweight mohair in the above sample. It’s knitted with sections of garter stitch and stripes and short rows,…

It’s not too early to to get a jump on Halloween yarn (because of course that’s a thing). What to stash this week: Yarn with a side of sass

Skeins of mossy green yarn.

Lakisher’s journey to becoming the dyer behind Sassy Black Yarns began more than 20 years ago, all the way back in 1998, when she was serving in the U.S. military and stationed in Seoul, Korea. She had the opportunity to tour a fabric mill and fell in love. Fast forward nearly 10 years to when she learned to crochet to make her newborn son a blanket. And then speed ahead to last year,…

What to stash this week: Nurture yourself

A set of white, gray, gold and pink skeins of yarn.

Over the winter, as I hunkered down at home for the umpteenth month while inhaling Schitt’s Creek (it’s simply the best!), I engaged in some serious comfort knitting with Julie Asselin’s Nurtured yarn — a rustic but soft blend of Rambouillet, Targhee and Merino that is hand dyed “in the wool” prior to being mill spun at Green Mountain Spinnery in Vermont. Aside from completing Casapinka’s Powder Wrap and Faye Kennington’s Winter Garden Hat,…

What to stash this week: stashing for a cause

A collage with a snow-covered mountain and purple sky, and pale purple yarn

I have a soft spot for Mount Rainier in Washington State as it’s the first national park I ever visited, almost exactly 10 years ago. Fittingly, Heather of Early Grey Fiber Company, based in the Pacific Northwest, chose this photo of a purple-y winter sunrise over Naches Peak, taken by parks volunteer JD Hascup. The Highest Peak will be dyed on Darjeeling Sock, a 75/25 blend of Superwash Merino and nylon that comes in generous 463-yard skeins….
