What to stash this week: Plan your holiday crafting

Gold, pink, red, white, brown and green yarn in a flat basket.

As people who make clothing from string, we do have to start our projects early. Fortunately, Kate of McMullin Fiber Co is having a special update for all of you getting a head start on holiday crafting! It includes lots of ready-to-ship mini skein collections in holiday colors, preorders for full-sized holiday colorways and a handful of remaining spots in her Christmas Countdown for 2021. Celebrate with collections inspired by the Nutcracker, the Rocky Mountains, a cozy Farmhouse Christmas and the bright and cheery colors of the 1950s.

Kate is closing up shop Saturday for an extended (and I’m sure much-needed) family break, so she has a special coupon for Indie Untangled readers that is good today and tomorrow only: use the code VERYMERRY for 15% off your entire McMullin Fiber Co purchase.

What to stash this week: Yarn with a side of sass

Skeins of mossy green yarn.

Lakisher’s journey to becoming the dyer behind Sassy Black Yarns began more than 20 years ago, all the way back in 1998, when she was serving in the U.S. military and stationed in Seoul, Korea. She had the opportunity to tour a fabric mill and fell in love. Fast forward nearly 10 years to when she learned to crochet to make her newborn son a blanket. And then speed ahead to last year, she decided to turn her love of hand-dyed yarn into a business.

What to stash this week: stashing for a cause

A collage with a snow-covered mountain and purple sky, and pale purple yarn

I have a soft spot for Mount Rainier in Washington State as it’s the first national park I ever visited, almost exactly 10 years ago. Fittingly, Heather of Early Grey Fiber Company, based in the Pacific Northwest, chose this photo of a purple-y winter sunrise over Naches Peak, taken by parks volunteer JD Hascup. The Highest Peak will be dyed on Darjeeling Sock, a 75/25 blend of Superwash Merino and nylon that comes in generous 463-yard skeins. It’s available to preorder on Indie Untangled through August 23 and will ship at the end of September. As always, 10% of sales will be donated to the National Park Foundation.

Pink and purple skeins of yarn

Here’s another cause worth stashing for: Christina has channeled her feelings of frustration about current events into two a new collection called Meaningful Action. 25% of sales of these two colorways, Bleeding Heart and No More Thoughts and Prayers, will be donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center and Everytown for Gun Safety.
