What to stash this week: Showing love
This Valentines Day, let’s celebrate our fiber friends!
Many of us got into the fiber arts because of our love of pretty yarn and all the things we could make with it. But we stayed for the friendships. They’re the friends who don’t roll their eyes when you decide to drop $40 on yet another skein of hand-dyed — in fact, they’ll buy one too so you can save on shipping — and who will literally give you the shawl off their back when you’re going through a rough patch….
What to stash this week: Places you can knit
I’m thrilled to open sign-ups today for Where We Knit 2020. This quarterly club, which will begin shipping in February, brings together four dyer/designer dream teams: Wobble Gobble Yarn and Veera Välimäki, bleu poussière and Paula Pereira, Earl Grey Fiber Co. and Vanessa Smith, and Indie Untangled X The Wandering Flock and Geraldine Yang.
Each pair will collaborate on an exclusive colorway and an accompanying accessory design inspired by their favorite spots to whip out their WIPs….

Pre-Rhinebeck Untangling: Dragonfly Fibers

This is the third in a series of blog posts featuring the fabulous sponsors of the 2019 Rhinebeck Trunk Show.
Dragonfly Fibers is one of the first indie dye companies I discovered, though it had launched in 2006, before I had even started knitting. Kate Chiocchio and Nancye Bonomo, based in suburban Washington, DC, were part of the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) scene that has produced a lot of indie talents….

What to stash this week: A sweater a day
Sheila of BigFootFibers is taking custom orders for the Olive Knits Four Day Sweater KAL. She is offering orders on BrilliantBritFoot Worsted (Superwash BFL) SuperSquishy Worsted (Superwash Merino) and the new, rustic SassyLassy Worsted (85% Superwash Merino/10% Donegal tweed).
Welcome Indie Untangled newcomer Beckie! This Canadian dyer named her yarn company Shirley Brian Yarn after her grandmother, a prolific knitter, and her late father. Beckie just had a shop update with 23 new colorways and old favorites on her Sailor Sock base….

What to stash this week: The Indie Project
Sam of Lavender Lune Yarn Co. has created the ultimate low-comittment indie yarn club with what she has dubbed The Indie Project. Each month, she teams up with another dyer and each of them take a stab at creating one-of-a-kind colorways based on a common inspiration photo. For April, Sam is working with Nicole of Hue Loco to create a set of yarn inspired by the photo above that can be used for a summer top designed by Olga from Handmade Closet….

What to stash this week: mini mani-yak
Stephania of Three Fates Yarn takes a different, less speckled path than other indie dyers, and her semisolids and gradients are perfect for colorwork projects that require the colors to stand out from one another. Enter her Helios mini skeins. Comprised of 60% Superwash Merino, 20% yak and 20% silk, they are a great match for items that require a bit of luxurious warmth with next-to-the-skin softness. Stephania has moved from Etsy to a new home on a new website,…
What to stash this week: fab finds
Heather of Heather’s Yarn Barn is dyeing small batches of colorways each month all inspired around a theme. This month’s colorways have an antique theme and include Yellow Flowers (pictured above), Rusty Old Keys and Lavender End Table.
Yarn clubs are such a great way to explore the work of new-to-you dyers, designers and other creative folks, and to fall in love with colorways that you may not have found on your own….
What to stash this week: Indie Goes West
If you’re local to Portland, Oregon, and free on February 2 from 5-8 p.m., then you should snag tickets to Indie Untangled’s first West Coast event! I’m teaming up with Thao of Nerd Bird Makery and we’re bringing together a select group of Northwest dyers and makers and also introducing a few indies from the East Coast. Click here for all the info.
If you miss summer camp,…

Untangling C.C. Almon of Javapurl Designs

Knitting and caffeine seem to go together like, well, yarn and needles. C.C. Almon of Javapurl Designs takes that to the next level with her designs, many of them coffee related, or with a geeky twist. There’s also a bit of Gilmore Girls thrown in (again, coffee) as she often collaborates on collections with her daughter, Dami.
C.C. also often works with dyer Julia of Pandia’s Jewels, and for this year’s Where We Knit yarn club,…

Pre-Rhinebeck Untangling: PostStitch
This is the seventh in a series of blog posts featuring the fabulous sponsors of the 2018 Rhinebeck Trunk Show.
We knitters have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to sources for indie yarn. If you’re up for surprises, a subscription box is a great opportunity to try out a new dyer or small yarn company.
PostStitch is one of the ideal ways to discover new dyers,…
