Once upon a time, I had an idea to kick off one of the most magical weekends of the year for us fiber folks.
I gathered a dozen dyers and designers in a tiny hotel conference room on the Friday night before the New York Sheep & Wool Festival. That small gathering grew each year, transforming into a beloved fall tradition.
This October, the story continues.
Join us for the 12th annual Indie Untangled on Friday, October 17th, a full day of shopping, connection and fiber community.
The vendor list is now up on the event page. We’re bringing together more than 45 indie yarn and fiber dyers, spinners and producers, and makers of project bags, stitch markers, jewelry and other unique accessories. Many longtime favorites are returning, alongside over a dozen new faces.
You’ll find them in three covered marketplaces at HITS on the Hudson, a scenic equestrian center with a gorgeous view of the Catskill Mountains, just outside downtown Saugerties. There will also be two yarn trucks to visit.
New this year: We know how hard it is to find room in your stash for all your Rhinebeck weekend finds. So, we’re making it a little easier! Bring along yarn you’re ready to part with and stop by the Welcome Barn, where our sponsor, Yarn Saver, will be offering onsite appraisals and payouts (more details coming soon).
When you’re ready to take a break, grab lunch from local food trucks, relax in the tented lounge sponsored by NYC yarn shop Knitty City and learn about upcoming adventures from Explore Knitting Tours, a fiber-focused travel company.
Tiered entry tickets go on sale Saturday, May 31 at 12 p.m. Eastern. Here’s how the day breaks down:
10 a.m.–12 p.m.: $35 (includes an event tote bag filled with goodies from our sponsors)
12–2 p.m.: $20
2–4 p.m.: $15
4–5:30 p.m.: $5
Tickets provide access to all three open-air, accessible shopping pavilions. Depending on crowd levels, we may allow re-entry into the marketplaces later in the day. That is, if you’re not already happily occupied eating, crafting and soaking up autumn in the Hudson Valley!
Can’t make it to New York? You can still take part from wherever you are. The Indie Untangled Virtual Marketplace launches October 17 and runs through the end of the month, featuring products from all our vendors. Online registration is free and opens Sunday, June 1 at 12 p.m. Eastern.
As always, we’ll be offering a limited number of community grants to help folks attend and experience the magic of Rhinebeck weekend in person. You can apply or nominate a fellow maker here.

Carolyn of Swan City Yarns has dyed up two blue speckled colorways, No Strings Attached and Kisses Are Delicious, that are inspired by sweet Hershey’s Kisses. They’re available on a variety of sock and DK bases.
