What to stash this week: Get your mitts on this yarn

Three light-skinned people standing in front of a neon sign that reads "Coyote Run Fiberworks." They are each holding spools of spun yarn.

2025 brings another array of breed-specific skeins for the Heritage Wool Collective hand-dyed yarn subscription and I’m excited to kick it off with Kat of Why Knot Fibers

Kat is the perfect dyer for this project: She already works with local farmers and mills to curate interesting wool blends and “shepherds” them through construction and processing, with an eye toward bringing out the unique characteristics of each breed. For the February shipment, Kat is collaborating with fellow Michiganders Nicole and Andy from Coyote Run Fiberworks, an indie mill established in 2021. They work only with American-grown fiber with the goal of creating naturally-colored yarns for indie dyers at a competitive price.

Kat’s colorway for this “Mitten State” collaboration will have an aesthetic that’s fittingly inspired by Good Harbor Beach, on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Make sure to sign up for the Heritage Wool Collective by December 31 to get this installment.

Carolyn of Swan City Yarns has released her new winter collection of coordinating colors. It’s made up of colors like After Midnight, Cookie Crumbs, Teal The Cows Come Home, Burnt Butter and Dappled.
