Several months ago, at h+h americas, I learned that the Spanish mill WoolDreamers had created yarn from the Guirra sheep, a breed native to the Valencian Community, on the east side of the Iberian Peninsula. The natural yarn is a cream color with a reddish hue. It was beautiful on its own, but I couldn’t help but wonder how it would look dyed, so I asked Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks if she wanted to take a crack at it. The results were pretty spectacular, and a plan was hatched.

I’m excited to share that this Spanish yarn, along with other breed-specific skeins from the Heritage Wool Collective from Indie Untangled, will be available at Vogue Knitting Live in NYCtaking place January 16-19 at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. I’ll be joining Debbie in her Murky Depths megabooth in the marketplace, which opens with a preview on Friday evening and runs through Sunday afternoon. I’ll also be taking a few classes and hope to see you there!

While New York will always be my hometown, I love returning to New Orleans and its unmatched architecture, delicious food and creative people. My heart especially goes out to the Crescent City during this challenging time, and I am continually inspired by the resilience and strength of its community.

I’m heading back to NOLA in February and will once again be hosting a krewe of talented fiber artists for Yarni Gras!

The third annual Yarni Gras marketplace will take place on Saturday, February 15 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Urban South Brewery, located in the Lower Garden District (and which makes one of my favorite beers).

I’ll be joined by several Louisiana-based dyers and makers. Tickets are available and we will once again be doing timed entry — at 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. — to make shopping as comfortable as possible. Admission is free, or you can purchase tickets that include an XL Yarni Gras zippered tote bag that can fit all the yarn you buy and then some.

Lisa The Knitting Artist is theming her fifth artist-inspired yarn club around Pablo Picasso. Each month of 2025, she will be creating a yarn colorway inspired by one of his works, starting with his earliest and ending with his last. Each month’s colorway will come with a fun fact card that is all about the work in question and/or the artist’s life at that time.
