24 Hat Patterns To Celebrate National Hat Day

Did you know that January 15th is National Hat Day? (There really is a day for everything.) Well, here in the fiber community, there is only one proper way to celebrate — by making hats!

So, break out your knitting needles or your crochet hook and your favorite skein(s) of yarn because today I’m sharing 24 hat patterns to celebrate National Hat Day.

The hat patterns I’m sharing from some of my favorite independent designers cover a wide variety of styles, textures, and skill levels. There is something here for everyone, and you’ll find patterns for kids, classic beanies, bulky hats, slouchy hats, men’s hats, and more.

Kids Hats

First, let’s start with the little ones in your life. Whether it’s a simple beanie or a fancy style hat, those yarn scraps or small skeins are perfect for these patterns.

Bulky & Chucky Hats

For those of you who love a good bulky yarn or a chunky hat, these patterns are for you! Here you will see hat patterns that work great with bulky yarn or that result in a nice chunky hat look.

Also, if you need some bulky yarn, check out our shop because we have a special bulky Cormo — milled by wool expert Clara Parkes and dyed in fabulous colors by Debbie of Murky Depths Dyeworks — that is perfect for finishing your hats quickly.

I love knitting hats as the perfect palette cleanser or quick, portable project with a bit of interest.

If you have never knitted a hat before, I highly recommend it! Knitting a hat is the perfect project for a beginner, and it’s great to make during the winter months.
