This is the eighth in a series of blog posts featuring the fabulous sponsors of Indie Untangled, taking place on October 17, 2025, in person in Saugerties, NY, and online. Tickets are available and selling fast!

I’ve loved watching Mitchell Wool Co. grow since they first joined Indie Untangled four years ago. Based in Michigan, this family-run company creates yarn straight from the sheep on their farm. It’s all raised with care, dyed naturally with plants, and spun through a fully transparent, living-wage supply chain.

This year, they’re giving us a peek behind the fences, sharing what a day in the life on the farm looks like and introducing the hardworking team (both two- and four-legged!) that makes it all possible. You can meet the Mitchell Wool team and shop their yarn in person at Indie Untangled on October 17.

We are so very excited to be joining our friends at Indie Untangled again for another show. While working day-in and day-out on the farm, it is easy to get tunnel vision and forget to look past our fences, get lost in the chore list and forget to look up and appreciate what we have built. When we vend at shows, we most enjoy visiting with “old” customers and meeting new ones. It lights our fire to hear others are also excited about exclusively American-grown and produced wool, dyed naturally with plants, processed through a fully transparent living wage supply system.

We want to bring you into the inner circle and learn about a day in the life on the farm, and how each member of our team plays a crucial role in the success of the business.

So, let’s get started…

Two cows are shown in a field at sunset. One is brown and looking toward the horizon, while the other, a white and gray speckled cow, stands alongside it. The sky glows orange and pink with the setting sun.
A white pig with black spots and a yellow ear tag is lying in the dirt with its snout covered in soil. The pig is resting peacefully with eyes half closed.

Days start early — very early! Animals need to be checked, fed, and cared for. Jack, George and Declan do the heavy lifting to make sure every member of our flock, including the sheep, cows, pigs, and chickens, are living their best lives on the land. Through our years of farming we have learned so much, and we value the mutual respect between the land and all that inhabit it, both woolly and not so wooly!

A person in a tan work jacket is holding several skeins of yarn in different colors, including green, gray, brown, pink, yellow, and purple. A barn with white doors is blurred in the background.

The work doesn’t stop when the boots hit the soil. Over at the bricks-and-mortar dye house and shop, the staff is buzzing each morning by 9 a.m. with fresh coffee in hand. Our team in the shop of Cindy, Bekah, Ann Marie, and Kristine keep a lot of what you see in our stockist locations afloat. They do it all, from skeining the yarn, to dyeing with plants only, hand sewing the bags with care, and packaging up orders. They are the crew that meticulously packages up our truck to send it on the road with the team. What you see is what you get with Mitchell Wool, and our small and mighty team do our best to keep all the balls (of yarn) in the air!

From a strategy standpoint Sherry, Francesco, and Jessica work cohesively to make sure we are staying true to our mission and core values, all while moving us in a forward trajectory of sustainable growth.

Comparable to the important role each animal plays on our family farm, so does each member of our team. We work as a unit, each lending our unique strengths and also jumping in all hands on deck when needed. We truly hope that if you find yourself near our patch of soil, you remember the lights are on and our doors are open.

Lisa
