Along Come Some Unusual Characters…and an Exciting Knit-a-Long!

Who hasn’t heard of Nomadic Knits? We are proud to have been a featured dyer in a couple of their amazing regional magazines featuring independent designers and dyers from across the U.S. These beautiful publications feature sweeping landscapes, stories, designers, dyers, and patterns. Nomadic Knits also hosts some of the most fun Knit-a-Longs, including the Twelve Days of Knitmas! On the heels of Knitmas, is The Lonely Hearts Club! This super fun KAL started four years ago and each year has been better and better. This year, Olive & Two Ewe is thrilled to be the featured dyer. You can learn more about the knit-a-long and see the beautiful kits we’ve prepared here.

We also welcome to the shop this week a couple of unusual characters — yarns we don’t often carry, but they are wonderful, nonetheless!

First, we introduce Rand, our little-known, single-ply, rustic alpaca super bulky base. Rand is spun by the wives and mothers of shepherds in the Andean mountains of Peru. Purchasing this yarn, sustains the economic health of their small circle of family and friends. We love that it will felt, making it interesting for craft projects of all sorts. It’s available in a beautiful array of colors.

Another unusual character is our Doyle DK base. Doyle’s 100% Pima Cotton makes it perfect for cool summer sweaters and easy-to-care-for home goods. We love it for dishcloths, so check out designs by Carolyn Edgar on Ravelry for three that are free.

Tolkien DK is another cottony base with 50% Superwash Merino and 50% cotton. Tolkien DK is another great option for summer sweaters and home goods. It’s larger gauge knits up quick and has excellent stitch definition.

As beautiful as it is unusual is Plato, our 4-ply DK base made of 75% Superwash Merino and 25% nylon. Beautiful and sturdy, Plato makes a cozy, plush sock that knits up quick. Shown here in A Hallmark Holiday, Plato comes in a rainbow of our favorite colors.

And last but not least, we hope you’ll join us as we go live on our YouTube Channel, The Traveling Two Ewe Knit, every Saturday morning at 9:30 am, Eastern time. We talk about yarn, patterns, trends and fiber friends. So, grab a project and a beverage, and join us for a yarny good time. Remember, Fiber Friends are the Best Friends, and we hope you’ll be ours.
