Showing A Good Yarn Sarasota

Our first Purl Diver Color Club yarn is here: Mantis Shrimp on the delightfully squishy Cloudgate yarn base from Lorna’s Laces! Cloudgate is a bulky weight blend of 90% superwash merino wool 10% nylon fiber, which means it’s both soft AND durable. Each skein has a generous 120 yards, so there are plenty of one- and two-skein patterns you can make with it. You can see how this vibrant colorway works up in our sample which is knit using the Roxanne Cowl pattern.

Our colorway was inspired by a photo of a mantis shrimp was taken in Komodo Nat’l Park in Indonesia while Susan’s husband Murray was diving with their son Daniel. We think the folks at Lorna’s Laces outdid themselves for this latest exclusive colorway!

We’re pleased to introduce our brand-new subscription service to deliver the finest hand-dyed yarns in exclusive colorways, straight to your mailbox: the Purl Diver Exclusive Color Club!

Members of our new club are guaranteed to be the FIRST people to see each new colorway added to our Purl Diver Collection. Since Susan opened the shop, these colors have been created by the best hand-dyers around, inspired by the deep sea photos taken by Susan’s husband, Murray, as he travels the world. Each colorway is exclusive to A Good Yarn and reflects the diversity and beauty of underwater life; there will be different weights and bases, from fingering to worsted.

Each shipment will include a skein of limited-edition, hand-dyed yarn from some of the best indie dyers around, a pattern, and a goodie. We will not be releasing the color in the shop or online for up to a week after you receive your yarn, giving you time to order from the same dyelot if you want more for a project!

There are three ways to join:

6 Months paid up-front $180
6 months billed monthly $33 a month billed through paypal.
3 months billed 1st, 3rd, and 5th month $35 every other month billed through paypal.

We’ve been adding lots of exciting new EXCLUSIVE colorways to our online store! A variety of talented indie dyers have created our shop exclusives over the years — everyone from Lorna’s Laces to Yarn Love, MadelineTosh, Three Irish Girls, and more! Some of them are inspired by underwater photographs taken by Murray Post, the husband of A Good Yarn’s owner, Susan Post, while scuba diving in Fiji.

Recent additions include (clockwise from top left):

Cabbage Patch in Dream in Color Jilly Lace: This colorway was based on a photograph of cabbage coral taken by Murray while diving in Rainbow Reef in Fiji

Clam in Fleece Artist Double Sea Silk: This colorway is inspired by a Tridacna, or giant clam

Grape Jelly in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock or Pearl: The Crown Jellyfish, also found in Fiji’s Rainbow Reef, is named after the crown-like shape on the top of it

Garnet & Gold Self-Striping in in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd superwash bases (sock, worsted and bulky)

Scarlet & Grey Self-Striping in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd superwash bases (sock and worsted)

Blue & Orange Self-Striping in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd superwash bases (sock, sport and worsted)

These last three are Yarns based on Florida school and sports colors.

You never know what we’ll be adding next!
