What to stash this week: yarn love

An image collage featuring seven mini skeins of yarn fading from light Tiffany blue to dark blue to bronze. A set of high-heel, pillow, and teacup charms and a Victorian armchair and chandelier project bag.

Andrea of WoolenWomenFibers is evoking feelings of love with the A Woolen Darling collection celebrating that upcoming holiday in February. Special sets include True Love’s Kiss, a seven-mini-skein Cashmere fade set “inspired by the frogs we kiss before true love blooms,” and Dripping in Diamonds, with a Tiffany blue that fades into a bronzed gold, available on a silvery lurex or gold Stellina base that’s exclusive to this set. The collection also includes the fun Photobooth Kisses and Retro Galentine’s Day Slumber Party sets, as well as striking black-and-white sets evoking Love and War.

Skeins in multi green toned yarn, a sea and mountain view and the words NEW LIMITED EDITION SUMMER SERIES PRINGLE BAY.

It’s summer in Cape Town so warm up with Cowgirlblues’ January theme of Starting Fresh with green. This limited-edition collection is inspired by beach time in Pringle Bay and Rooi Els, swimming in the St. James tidal pool, exploring the coastal dunes and taking gentle afternoon strolls.

Five skeins of yarn laying on a chevron shawl with moody lighting. The skeins of yarn are mauve, an off cream, gold, tan with speckles and deep berry.

Gabby’s releasing the five colors from the Plies & Hellhounds Dark Academic Yarn Countdown as the Winter Break Collection. This warm and moody collection captures “the deep tones of mahogany office tucked behind stacks of books in the library on a dark winter day, the only illumination from the cackling fire warming your outstretched legs as you rest another leather bound book down.”

Close-up of tiny white flowers in a green field with a sunny, blue sky above. Text reads Inspired by Nature, Sock of the Season, Mystery Sock Club. Logos shown are for BritStitchery and Jilly & Kiddles.

If you’d rather “feel the warm sunshine on your face as we journey through a spring meadow,” Jill is opening sign-ups for the third year of the Jilly & Kiddles SOS Club, a mystery club that brings you a full skein of yarn in an exclusive colorway, a sock pattern, goodies curated just for each package and an invitation to a Virtual Makers Social the week after kits ship.

What to stash this week: Precious love

A woman wears a pink skirt and olive green handknit sweater.

Mary of Lyrical Knits looked to one of her (and my) comfort watches, Schitt’s Creek, for her latest sweater design. A follow-up to her Fold In the Cheese hat, The JazzaGal is a top-down pullover that features a round yoke with a cascading, teardrop lace pattern. It’s designed to be knit with a strand of fingering yarn held together with a strand of laceweight mohair, or if, unlike David Rose, you can’t pull off mohair, you can use a heavy DK/light worsted yarn. The JazzaGal is available on both Ravelry and Payhip at 30% off with the code preciouslove through this Monday, January 17.

Fortunately, Kate of McMullin Fiber Co is having a special update for all of you getting a head start on holiday crafting! It includes lots of ready-to-ship mini skein collections in holiday colors, preorders for full-sized holiday colorways and a handful of remaining spots in her Christmas Countdown for 2021. Celebrate with collections inspired by the Nutcracker, the Rocky Mountains, a cozy Farmhouse Christmas and the bright and cheery colors of the 1950s.

Blue marled stockinette fabric and the words Indie Untangled 2020 Year in Review

There’s definitely nothing quite like showing off your latest FO, either at a fiber festival or online (and I’ve definitely spent this year trying to perfect the art of the knitwear selfie!). I really enjoyed seeing what people have finished in 2020 with yarn from Indie Untangled dyers.

What to stash this week in addition to Indie Untangled Everywhere

A green to plum gradient yarn.

Scarlet of Huckleberry Knits is dyeing a second colorway for Knitting Our National Parks called Nostalgia, inspired by a fall photo of Acadia National Park.

“I grew up in Massachusetts, and the first national park I ever went to was the only one in New England, Acadia,” Scarlet says. “When I was a kid, our family vacations usually involved the seashore, but our trip to Acadia added in dramatic rocky outcrops and thick forests that seemed to spring forth from the ocean, unlike anything I’d seen before. Every autumn I miss New England, and Nostalgia reflects those rich colors that say ‘home’ to me.”⁣

Nostalgia will be dyed on Scarlet’s Gradient Fingering base, a blend of 75% Superwash Merino and 25% nylon with a generous 463 yards per skein. It’s available as a sock blank or wound into a center-pull cake. Preorder it on Indie Untangled through next week only.

A sewing machine illustration that reads #vote2020 and #warmtheline

Warm the Line is a grassroots effort of crafters encouraging those in our community to send hats, scarves and other warm items to voters waiting on long lines to vote in cold swing states. Along with contributing to this campaign with your craft, you can also buy an item — a T-shirt, sweatshirt, tote bag or hat — to commemorate the project with a hand-drawn logo by an emerging artist.

What to stash this week: Join The Baby-Sitters Knitting Club

Gray yarn atop a book and a box of colorful mini skeins.

Amy of Canon Hand Dyes creates colors inspired by literature, so I was thrilled to learn she was also a fan of The Baby-Sitters Club, a series of books released throughout the ’80s and ’90s that was recently turned into a wonderful Netflix series.

Amy captured the spirit of each character — including entrepreneurial Kristy, shy but mature Mary Anne, artsy Claudia, sophisticated Stacey, hippie Dawn, bookish Mallory and graceful Jessi — in a colorful six-skein mini set and a coordinating neutral.

The yarn is available exclusively through Indie Untangled on Amy’s new Edith Sock, a luxuriously soft 17-micron Superwash Merino that would make the loveliest shawls, including Melanie Berg’s On the Spice Market or Ambah O’Brien’s Lamina Wrap. Preorders are open until October 4 and the yarn will ship at the end of November.

A blue bag with white alpacas wearing red knitwear.

In anticipation of fall projects, Stephanie of Rock Solid Designs has restocked her super roomy Grace Bags, which can hold up to six skeins of worsted weight yarn. And, yes, it has pockets — four of them, as well as a clear vinyl pouch on the outside. The Grace comes in more than a dozen fun fabrics, including the adorable wildlife pattern pictured here. Take them on your fall travels, whether on a road trip or staying close to home.

Starting today and running through August 28, you’ll get 10% off every purchase in her shop and free shipping on purchases of $100 or more.

A gnarled tree under stars and purple speckled yarn.

I’m extending preorders of Birch Hollow Fibers’ ethereal Stardust In Basin colorway through this Sunday. A lightly speckled cabled cowl and lightly speckled yarn.

The other day, I was reminded of Mina Philipp of Knitting Expat Designs’ Roadwipping Cowl, designed for the 2019 Where We Knit Yarn Club with Rebecca of Fuse Fiber Studio. Sadly, Rebecca is no longer dyeing, but the May 2020 colorway from Shani of Bleu Poussière, created with natural dyes, would be perfect for this one-skein design. The yarn is available to preorder on Indie Untangled only through this Sunday.
