Trip Down Memory Lane A Look Back At Our Indie Untangled Bag Designs

One of everyone’s favorite things about Indie Untangled, besides the yarn, vendors, food, and atmosphere, is our BAG!

If you are new to Indie Untangled, every year we work with artists to create a bag that helps bring together the vibe of the show. This bag is done in a limited run and is available to preorder and purchase for that year’s Indie Untangled. It’s a great way to carry all your yarn goodies during the show and to have a fun memento.

Since we will be sharing more information about Indie Untangled 2026 very soon, I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane and look back at our Indie Untangled bag designs from past years!

2014

This bag was designed and screen printed by Rochelle, who now runs Home Row Handcraft.

In a busy indoor yarn market, several people shop and chat at a booth; in the foreground, a person with a medium skin tone wearing a yellow top carries a tote bag that reads “shop indie,” while another person with a light skin tone stands behind the table displaying yarn and knitted goods.

2016

Our 2016-2021 bags were designed by Eloise Narrigan, known for her adorable animal illustrations.

A cream-colored tote bag hangs outdoors against a brick wall, printed in red with the text “I Craft Indie” and illustrated with playful icons like a sheep, yarn, leaves, and crafting tools.

2017

A cream tote bag rests against a tree outdoors, decorated in blue with cartoon animals wearing sweaters and carrying yarn, along with text referencing “Indie Untangled Rhinebeck Kickoff.”

2018

A cream tote bag displayed indoors features colorful illustrations of animals in scarves and sweaters, with text about the Indie Untangled Rhinebeck event and Yarn Culture New York.

2019

A cream tote bag lies flat on a wooden surface, showing a bright illustration of animals gathered around a yarn and tea shop, with text reading “The Perfect Blend Yarn & Tea Shop.”

2020

Two matching cream bags and two skeins of yarn are arranged on a wooden surface; the bags feature whimsical illustrations of animals crafting and using yarn, with the phrase “Indie Untangled Everywhere.”

2021

A large black tote bag is displayed indoors, featuring colorful illustrations of animals knitting and shopping for yarn, surrounded by small crafting items placed nearby.

2022

Our 2022 bag was illustrated by MacKenzie of Emtothethird Yarn Co.

A cream tote bag sits on a bench outdoors, printed with a stylized forest scene and diverse illustrated people walking and shopping beneath trees, with “Indie Untangled” text in the center.

2023

Since 2023, we’ve been working with Jessica McGuirl of First Pancake Studio, who creates lovely, whimsical illustrations and specializes in hand lettering.

A green tote bag indoors features a detailed illustration of people crafting and relaxing among oversized yarn and mushrooms, with text reading “Indie Untangled October 20th 2023.”

2024

A red tote bag is shown indoors with a lively illustration of people and animals engaged in fiber arts, surrounded by yarn and tools, with “Indie Untangled 2024” across the design.

2025

At a market booth, two people—one with a light skin tone wearing a colorful crocheted sweater and one with a medium skin tone in a light jacket—stand close together and point while looking at items for sale, both carrying illustrated Indie Untangled tote bags.

Let’s Talk About Indie Untangled 2026

Indie Untangled 2026 will be here before you know it!

If you have never heard of Indie Untangled, it’s our annual fiber festival where we bring buyers and sellers of hand-dyed yarn and fiber, handspun yarn, notions, and accessories, together. This year, Indie Untangled returns to HITS on the Hudson in Saugerties, NY, on Friday, October 16, surrounded by the beautiful Catskill Mountains.

Tickets will go on sale later this year, so we recommend signing up for our newsletter and following us on Instagram, so you don’t miss any announcements. Plus, you don’t want to miss our brand new bag for Indie Untangled 2026! It might be my favorite yet!

Since we took this trip down memory lane, I would love to know how many of our Indie Untangled bags you own. Let us know in the comments below!
