Skeins of hand-dyed yarn in various shades of green, blue, and purple and a close-up of braided fiber in similar colors. An underwater view showing coral and marine life and an above-water view capturing the landscape of an island with lush green mountains and a clear sky.

As many of us spend a holiday weekend enjoying the great outdoors, it seemed appropriate to launch the next installment of the Indie Untangled Knitting Our National Parks series. This one takes us a bit further afield. Faery of Apothafaery Luxury Fibers was inspired by the stunning landscapes of the National Park of American Samoa, home to coral reefs, volcanic mountains and pristine rainforests.

Faery created two colorways: the variegated Tutuila, one of the four islands that comprises the national park, and the semisolid Vai Paia, which is Samoan for holy water. They will both be available on three bases — two fingering and one DK — plus Tutuila will be dyed on U.S.-grown Merino wool spinning fiber. You can preorder the colorways from Indie Untangled through July 19.

As always, 10% of all sales will be divided between the National Park Foundation and the Native American Rights Fund. As we celebrate the establishment of our nation and marvel at its incredible biodiversity, let’s also recognize the importance of indigenous stewardship and the need to support local communities in preserving their natural heritage.

I need to make room for some exciting new bases, so I’m heavily discounting a ton of my current stock! Use HAPPYFOURTH for 30% off on this collection of yarn. The sale runs through July 14th and all orders placed through the sale will ship on July 17th.

If you’re looking to cook up some electric mayhem with two skeins of sock yarn, Mary has released the Dr. Teeth shawl. It uses an easier-than-it-looks stitch pattern from her recent Muppet Shawl KAL.

If you’re a Hudson Valley local, visiting this summer or in October, make sure to check out Yarn Farm Kingston, a two-year-old shop/wine bar that was recently voted Best Yarn Store by readers of the Chronogram Magazine. While they don’t have an online store yet, they’re happy to ship.
