New Keld Twist on the website

We have exciting news to share: our latest new yarn, Keld Twist, is now available on the website. YAY!!! We all adore this yarn at ECY Shedquarters and the test group do too so it’s really good to finally be able to release it into the wild!

Keld Twist (4ply/fingering weight) is the same beautiful blend of Superwash Merino with linen as found in Keld Fingering and Keld Aran, although slightly different in that this is 16.7% linen whereas the other have only 10%. The linen stands out on medium-dark colours as it doesn’t take the dye the same as the wool, so on a lot of colourways it has a marled effect. The overall look is a slightly rustic yarn with linen fibres providing a little fluff, depth, and texture. Keld Twist is two plies spun together giving this yarn and the resulting fabric a bit more structure than the singles fingering weight. It’s ever so gorgeous and is ideal for summer accessories and garments, working well at a loose gauge as well as a standard 4ply gauge. If you’ve used Keld Aran you’ll find that this is basically the same but thinner. It substitutes into patterns well as a 4ply/fingering weight yarn.

Although we have absolutely fallen in love with this yarn here at ECY Shedquarters I don’t expect you to just take our word for it, so we’ve had a group of testers appraise it for us! They have knitted, crocheted, and Tunisian crocheted – some are still in progress but there’s enough info and opinions for us to go on already. The overall verdict is that everyone absolutely loves this yarn so far! I honestly don’t expect that to be the outcome — if someone had said it was not for them I would include it in the reviews, but they haven’t. You can find our blog post introducing the yarn on our Yarn Specific Blog Posts blog which you can find in the Blog menu on our website. The blog post includes the test projects and the testers’ thoughts about the yarn.

Tis the season for make-alongs and we have news of a crochet-along (CAL) launching today from one of our all-time favourite designers. Janie Crow has released information about the Glad Tidings wrap CAL over on her website. As the pattern is being released in parts the CAL is only available through Ravelry for now but the full pattern will be released on Etsy and Jane’s website after the 15th December. The CAL will be released in sections daily from the 1st to the 15th of December. The pattern recommends 16 x 20g mini skeins of 4ply/fingering weight yarn but you could actually make it in any number of colours. With that in mind we have yarn packs on our website using eight x 50g balls of Milburn with a number of colour combinations and we have a lucky dip mini skein set available too.

We have loads of stuff in progress (as usual) including hand dyed yarn orders in progress for a number of our stockists: Find Me Knitting, Loop and Knitting Pretty have all received orders from us recently and we are working on order for Yarn O’Clock. We have stockists around the world so to find one near you check out our Stockists page. You may be able to save money and time by ordering from a stockist in your region!

Also in progress we have updates of the following yarns:
Hayton DK – Merino/Cashmere/nylon (which I’m dubbing our ‘teddy bear yarn’ because it’s SO squishy)
Titus 4ply – Merino/silk (absolute classic)

These will be coming to the website ASAP – Hayton DK is being photographed and will be on the website very soon (hopefully this week)! Photography is actually really hard over winter as I’m totally incapable of indoor photography, the weather is currently either bright sunshine or raining, and with the darker days there’s a lot less time in the day to photograph yarn! So do watch out for these as once I get them done they can go on the website quickly, so it could be quite short notice!

Coming very soon we will have our festive boxes containing handmade project bags from Kalok Shek Ellen with matching yarn and some other seasonal treats. These will be on the website in the next week or so!
