Our next hand dyed yarn update – Hayton DK and Bowland 4ply

Our next update will be on Friday 12th June at 8 p.m. UK time. This update will be the beautiful Hayton DK and Bowland 4ply so we have a great combination of British bluefaced leicester in the Bowland, and Merino, cashmere, and nylon in the Hayton. Both are gorgeous yarns but in totally different ways! If you want to know more about the differences between the fibres of the two breeds check out our blog post on the subject. Hayton DK is soft, squishy, and cosy.. whilst Bowland 4ply is much more woolly, soft in a different way, and has a sort of light drape to it. If you’ve got really sensitive skin then something like Hayton DK will suit you better than the BFL yarns. I’ve done larger batches of the DK (as usual!) so that you can get sweater quantities if you wish, and there are lots of semi-solid colourways so that you can do things like lace and textures without losing the stitch pattern amongst lots of colours. There are variegated colourways too though, of course! Also worth noting is that Snow Leopard is back! It sold out in minutes last time so I thought I’d best make some more for those who missed out. ❤️

While planning our Bowland 4ply update Laura reminded me about the Royal Mile shawl by Justyna Lorkowska aka Lete’s Knits. We released this as a collaboration at Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2017. It uses two skeins of Bowland 4ply and you can play around with the colours to really personalise it. The sample below is made using two balls each of Milburn 4ply in Althaea and Natural. We have copies of the pattern available on the website and we also have add-on kits. Add-on kits let you choose the yarns and colours you want for your kit and we package them up with the pattern, a project bag and a sachet of soak. Simply add the yarns and the add-on kit to your basket and we’ll do the rest. Check out the Kits section of the website to find all available add-on kits — there are loooooads!
