Gray Area is a collaboration between Casapinka and Invictus Yarns. There are many color combinations you can choose from… pick a gray gradient and decide on a punchy main color such as red, pink, orange or teal, or pick a neutral main color color with a gradient that you love.

For some reason, I never tire of variegated yarn, especially when combined with a nice solid to tone it down. I wanted to show you two designs that are both simple, “beach takers” as I call them. You’ll quickly get the hang of them and can dodge sand and sunscreen as you sit under your umbrella and take breaks to boogie board!
Both require 2 skeins of sock/fingering yarn (any brand is fine.)
Painted Windows is a boomerang shaped shawl and Rainbow Warrior is a top down-crescent shawl.

Use 2 skeins of Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles or 2 skeins of your favorite sock yarn — perhaps Dragonfly Fibers Pixie? — to make this shawl.
If you’re looking for a relaxing knitting design that is 50% off, Mick Jagged is on sale through March 1 in honor of Malabrigo March. It was designed in Malabrigo Sock and Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply, and is wonderful for a solid/variegated combination.
There is a very fun MKAL in collaboration with Miss Babs beginning January 21. There will be six clues on an all-garter shawl, appropriately called “Welcome Back, Garter.” You need three skeins of sock yarn; please read the info on the Ravelry pattern page for specifics. Please join the Casapinka group on Ravelry for some great prizes and to share your colors. We even have a beautiful gradient prize for our “Endalong” (where you sew in your ends like good knitters, ahem). If you need color help we are there to guide you. The shawl is large, drapey, pretty, and fun to knit. You might want to knit more than one!
The Boomerangles consist of two shawls: the Boomeranglet (shawlette) and the Boomerangle. They use three different colored yarns (shown in Backyard Fiberworks Sock) and are great for scrap amounts of hand-dyed sock yarn. A unique construction, half is a boomerang in stripes, the other half (no seams!) is an elongated triangle in simple slipped stitches and stockinette. Fast and fairly mindless, there is a picot edge on the top (for something different) of the garter portion.

For this year’s Rhinebeck celebration (it is a celebration!), Casapinka has teamed up with the wonderful dyers, Backyard Fiberworks and Magpie Fibers. There are two hats, two shawls, and two sweaters that are being introduced this week in the Casapinka Ravelry store. In honor of Rhinebeck, there is a “Buy two get one pattern free” special going on in the Casapinka Ravelry Store through October 18.
My designs tend to be on the simple side. You won’t find much that you can’t throw down in a fit of panic when the dishwasher is overflowing or your kid is de-whiskering the cat.
1. “Fall is a Color” hat will be available as an exclusive Indie Untangled Kit at the Backyard Fiberworks booth at the trunk show and afterwards by mail order. You will love working with Alice’s vibrant, tonal colors on 100% merino fingering.
2. “I Dream of Lapland” hat takes half a skein of two colors of Backyard Fiberworks 100% merino sock yarn. It comes in two sizes. Come to the booth to choose your own colors!
3. “Boomerangle” and “Boomeranglet” are a mini and larger shawl that each take 3 colors of fingering weight yarn. They are half boomerang, half triangle.
4. “Dancing Queen” is a fair isle, top down yoked pullover or cardigan done up in the wonderfully soft and warm Magpie Fibers Swanky DK. This yarn is amazing as is her Swanky Sock, which was used for the next two designs. It’s like knitting with butter!
5f. “Isabelita” is a top down, crescent shawl that requires two skeins of Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock (MCN), and uses some slipped and textured stitches.
6. “Quindici” was released last week and is made out of 3 colors of Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock (MCN).
