Socktoberfest Celebration

Here at McMullin Fiber Co. we’re celebrating our favorite month with our annual Socktoberfest Celebration. We like to get into the spirit of the knitting season with a big sale and some fantastic giveaways. Here are the basics:

Everything in the shop is 25% off till October 31st. Every item purchased between now and midnight of the 31st means one entry into our mega-drawing. On November 1st we’ll pick six winners. In the order they’re drawn they get to choose the prize they covet most. Prizes are: A set of Lykke interchangeable needles (or crochet hooks if that’s your thing), a Plum waxed field bag from Fringe, a $100 shop credit, a $50 shop credit and two $25 shop credits.

It’s the perfect time to stock up for all your winter knitting projects. Full-sized skein sets like our new Ravenclaw inspired Fade count for as many entries as skeins in the set (five in this case), mini skein sets count as one. And best of all, our annual Literature Society signups are open as part of the sale and count as 12 entries into the drawing! We have a fun lineup planned for 2019 with Classics and modern favorites on the list.

If all you got from that whole spiel was “Ravenclaw,” here are the details on that set: Five colorways make up this fade inspired by the cleverest house in Hogwarts. Ink and Parchment, Perfect Grey, Wit Beyond Measure, Denim and Rowena.

We have full-sized sets and mini skein sets available so you can choose between crafting a large shawl or sweater, or a smaller project like socks or a hat. We know you’ll choose wisely.

Sweater Weather

It’s about damn time, isn’t it? Our latest shop update includes our gorgeous new Sweater Weather Collection in both full sized Merino/Cashmere/nylon DK weight yarns and 80/20 Merino/nylon sock mini skeins. The shop is stocked with lots of fan favorites and a few new colorways:

Hunting Tartan is a mix of dramatic deep purples, greens and bronzey golds.
La Vie En Rose has soft rose, deep burgundy and golds.
Vintage is a silvery cream base with speckles of hot pink, deep oranges, aquas and browns and goes perfectly with the whole Sweater Weather collection.

Time to cast on! Winter is just around the corner.

Jane Eyre Signups Open Today

Are you one of those special people who loves books and the fiber arts? Today we open sign ups for our Jane Eyre installment of McMullin Fiber Co. Literature Society. Each package will contain one skein of yarn and some extra goodies inspired by the novel. Unless you sign up for a double dose, then you’ll find two skeins in your package. If gothic romance isn’t your thing, next month we’ll be featuring Gone With the Wind and in December: Little Women. You choose if you’d prefer Light (light fingering to sport) or Heavy (sport to bulky) weight yarns, so no matter your project preference we’ll have you covered! Signing up for any month means access to our members-only page where you can pick up extra skeins of the previous month’s yarns before they’re available to anyone else, and special discounts on other literary themed yarns. Our favorite part of the club is listening to the audiobook while knitting with the colorway it inspired. Combining our two great loves!

Also new — we’ve received so many custom dye requests that we’ve added a Dye to Order section to our website for our most popular colorways. Ordering a sweater’s quantity or a single skein just got easier.

Is it Fall Yet?

Temps aren’t really dropping yet, but everything in the fiber world needs to be anticipated early since creating a garment stitch by stitch tends to take a little longer. Here at McMullin Fiber Co. we consider knitting a year-round sport, but there is something magical about snuggling into your favorite FOs and knitting in front of a crackling fire (or a great TV lineup — no judgement here!). Not only have we stocked the shop with new and old favorite colorways for fall, but we’ve also set up a special discount for our Indie Untangled friends. Use the code INDIE15 for 15% off your entire purchase, no minimums required.

Happy Fall!

Color for a cause

We are so excited to announce that we’ll be donating a portion of our sales to the Aruna Project for the next few months. You can learn more about this great non-profit at our website, but the bottom line is: they’re helping to free women in India from sexual slavery and then helping them gain new skills and confidence through fair employment and therapy so they don’t end up going back to being exploited.

Every skein purchased will result in a donation to this fantastic cause. It can be so easy to get overwhelmed by all the problems we see in the world, but we can make an impact even if it’s something small. We have gorgeous new colorways for fall and some super fun knitting accessories, too.

Anne of Green Gables Collection

I have a feeling you may be Kindred Spirits, so I’d like to share with you a collection of colorways inspired by Anne and the places and people of Avonlea. They’re available for a limited time in the shop on our Squishy (SW Merino/nylon) sock base and our Sublime Worsted (100% SW Merino single-ply) base. Together all six on fingering weight would create an incredible Goldfish Memory Shawl by Casapinka, and on worsted they’d make a gorgeous striped sweater. We’ll also have mini-skein sets on our Squishy sock base, perfect for cheerful striped socks or pops of color in heels and toes or giant scrappy blankets.

The colorways are (from left to right in the first image):
Island Welcome
Amethyst Confessions
Puffed Sleeves
October Mist
Carrots!
Gilbert Blythe

I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed putting them together!

Right now we’re stocked with plenty of gorgeous singles and sock yarns for light easy beach knitting, and our Posh Skinny is the perfect weight for light transition sweaters like Boyland Knitworks’ Tegna. At a whopping 630 yards per skein you can knit up a small sweater with less than two hanks! The cashmere content makes it soft and airy. It’s spring sweater bliss.

Yarns, Etc.

Don’t you love a good pair of embroidery snips? I collect them and tend to keep a fancy pair in every knitting bag because they make me smile when I get to do exciting things like changing colors, or when I have to do tedious things like weave in ends.

We just added a whole lot of gorgeous colorways and adorable snips to the shop and just because it’s fun and because we can, we have a special offer going on. Our colorways Dusty Rose and Tres Bien are sultry and sophisticated and inspired by imaginary strolls along the Seine. So when you purchase a skein of each, we’ll send along a pair of Eiffel Tower snips. You’ll have a set for a perfectly Parisian project!

The inspiration for one of our most popular colorways, Rainy Days, is pretty self explanatory. When you purchase two skeins in this colorway on any base we’ll send along a pair of Big Ben snips since London gets more than their fair share of drizzle. Mr. McMullin proposed on a long walk in the rain, so rainy days always give me a reason to smile (and an excuse to stay inside and knit)!

This special offer lasts as long as the current dyed up stock does. But if you miss out, we’ll have plenty of extra snips for sale in the shop. Come take a peek and find something worthy of your crafting time.

Spring is Coming

It doesn’t quite feel like spring yet, but we know it is coming and we’re obsessing over the gorgeous colors that come with it!

The shop is full of springy beauties, and three fun Valentines Day collaborations with charm maker Little Bitty Delights. The sets are inspired by three famous couples because we love love. There’s Lucy and Ethel from “I love Lucy” (BFF love is important too — Happy Galentine’s Day!), Harry Burns and Sally Albright from “When Harry Met Sally,” and Wesley and Buttercup from “The Princess Bride.”

Celebrate the upcoming change in seasons with us! By the time you’ve finished whatever you’re casting on right now, spring should be just around the corner!

Lit Society Yarn Club

{{The cut off for January’s club shipment is Dec 31st. We only have 12 spaces left for Pride and Prejudice in January.}}

Treat yourself or someone you love to a luxury literary yarn package each month. (If the subscription is a gift, let us know! We can ship the recipient a special card detailing what to expect so they can get excited for their first shipment!)

This yarn club is based on some of our favorite classic novels, it will be all new colorways inspired by the books listed below. Memberships are available for 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. The longer the membership you buy, the greater the savings. If you’d like 2 skeins of each colorway, pick “Double Dose” when you’re checking out. That gives you the same swag but double the yarn. Colorways will be exclusive to the club for at least 6 months, and if we’re inspired to cook up additional colorways inspired by the book members get first crack at them at a discounted price.

This season of the McMullin Fiber Co. Literary Society begins January 2018 and ends December 2018. Yarn will be mailed on or about the 15th of each month and members will receive lots of extra goodies over the course of the year, like stitch markers, project bags, knitting swag, etc. It’s like getting an amazing swap package in the mail without scrambling to put one together yourself! There will be a mix of our base yarns with tonal semi-solids, kettle-dyed yarns and lots of gorgeous speckles. You choose if you want light yarns (light fingering up to sport weight) or heavy yarns (sport weight up to bulky — mostly worsted weight).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Can I pick and choose which months I want?
A: Yes. You can either buy a one month membership for each month that you want, or if you want the savings of the longer term memberships you can sign up for 3 or 6 months and list in the notes to seller which months you want (they don’t have to be a consecutive 3 or 6 months).

Q: What if I decide to extend my membership?
A: You can do that at any time by purchasing another membership from the shop. Unfortunately if you decide to add 3 months to a 3 month membership, you won’t get the same savings of purchasing a 6 month membership up front.
