Tis the season for the introduction of a variety of sumptuous new colorways. In addition to the new line of Calliope 100% silk yarn that debuted last week, we are now beginning to welcome a few fall/winter colorways, and these three new shades of Velvet are certainly eye catching! You’ll want to check these three out: Davy Jones, Burlesque, and Badlands.

Can’t you just picture yourself wrapped in these rich colors? With the cooler autumn months just down the road a piece, now is the perfect time to cast on for a new fingering weight shawl for those cool evenings of September and October. Hand dyed right here on the farm, this 3-ply fingering weight works up much like Tosh Merino Light, only with the added softness and slight halo of alpaca. It may very well be my favorite of all of the yarns on the market. I know I have at least one shawl project in my own queue for the Davy Jones colorway, and I have a pair of Jaywalkers on the needles right now that I’m working up in the Little Pigs colorway. And of course, we have also re-stocked with previous colorways that may have been sold out when you last visited the online shop. Now is the time to stop in and see what your stash has been missing!

A few months ago, I reached out to three talented people who I’d gotten to know during the crazy ride of creating Indie Untangled. When I came up with the idea for the site, I wanted to not only spread the word about shop updates and sales, but also curate special packages from some of my favorite indie yarntrepreneurs.

The result was Untangling, a collaboration between Michelle of Berry Colorful Yarnings, designer Lara Smoot and Vicki of That Clever Clementine. The kit includes a skein of Michelle’s incredible self-striping sock yarn in one of three available colorways, including the exclusive Indie blue, the pattern for Lara’s lovely infinity scarf and a loop-handled Lulu bag in an exclusive fabric handcrafted by Vicki.

A limited number of dyed- and sewn-to-order kits are on sale at Indie Untangled through the end of the day on June 21. Order yours here!

June brings a new addition to the shop: Calliope! This fingering weight, 100% raw silk yarn is kettle dyed in crisp, vibrant colors. I don’t know about you, but I always cringe at the price of imitation silk yarns. As well, I think it’s just crazy to pay an arm and a leg for non-synthetic silk that has been scoured, bleached, and degraded into something that is soft and shiny, but very different from what nature intended. Neither scoured nor chemical treated, Calliope drapes like linen, plus it retains all of the elasticity that those little silk worms intended it to have. Instead of that high-polished industrial shine that you get with most silk yarns, Calliope retains its natural opalescent sheen, even after dying.

Each hank is 400 yards (100g) and retains that OOAK quality due to the kettle dying process. Colors are fixed so, unlike many raw silks out there, the colors will not bleed or fade. Current colorways include: Blue Agave (pictured), Flamingo, French Lilac (pictured), Cardinal, Cove, and Java (pictured). The weather has been kind of crazy here on the farm lately, so look for additional colors to arrive in the shop in the next week or so.

I can’t think of a more perfect summer-weight yarn, especially for lacey accessories like shawls and long, draped scarves. Choose Calliope in place of any fingering weight sock yarn for your next summer project and wrap yourself in the luxury of silk!

I have just partnered with Moon Shine Camo Company to create a yarn line specific to their camo. This is an Officially Licensed product. Any questions or concerns you can contact either myself or Moon Shine.

Most people know Muddy Girl camo for their bright pinks and purples contrasted with black.

I have brought it into the world of yarn and knit wear.

I hope you visit my shop and purchase some for your stash.

It is currently available in sock/fingering weight of 75% SW Merino and 25% nylon, as well as DK of 100% SW Merino at 250 yds.

The wonderful colors in Sound of Music being set most of the time outdoors with the bright greens and blues brought about this lovely skein of yarn.

Shades of blue and green interspersed with white to remind you of the clouds, grass and sky.

75% SW Merino wool, 25% nylon in 463yd skeins.

This is a repeatable colorway so if you would like more than 1 skein and have it as a same dye lot let me know and I will be happy to dye it up.

Frida Fuchs is a new yarn brand from Berlin. Two young and creative sisters founded Frida Fuchs. They have grown up doing knitting and painting in Berlin.

Jana, the older of the two, currently lives in Switzerland and this is where she dyes her yarns. Her surroundings have definitely influenced her and ensures that the yarn has its own flair. She commutes between Zurich and Berlin. Two such beautiful cities have been the inspiration for much of the colour choices at Frida Fuchs. When she is not chasing after her young daughter, she looks dreamily at the world around her, always in search of great colours inspirations.

Julia manages the distribution from Berlin and is the creative mind behind the great names chosen for the colours. Julia recently started her studies as a remedial teacher and has used her love for knitting during her training to crochet toys for the kids. Wool is one of her favourite materials which explains why she is always knitting when not engaged in other activities.
