paper and yarn began with a frustrated new knitter in need of some ‘encouragement’ and has evolved into a dye-works and local yarn shop (The Thankful Ewe). We specialize in grumpy stitch markers but also create simple dangle-frees and light weight retro-inspired collections.

Our ‘Hues’ line of hand dyed sock yarn was introduced a few years ago to provide mono-chrome colors that are great for lace knitting. We ship internationally too!

Welcome to Artisan Yarns! I think what sets us apart from many indie dyers is that we are not only dyers and fiber artists, but we also raise and breed alpacas. We know alpaca inside and out! We are a two-person operation and have been dying alpaca and alpaca blend yarns since 2000. As of the recent year, we’ve been growing quickly. This last year alone, we are featured in two of the latest books by Margaret Hubert (the first one os coming out June 1st), featured in Holla Knits, and last month we were a proud supplier of yarn to subscribers of the very popular yarn subscription club, Yarn Box.

Our yarns range from a worsted/chunky weight called “Alpaca Magic” to DK weights. “Creé-Ah’s Breath” is 100% baby alpaca, and “Alpaca Silk” is a 70% alpaca/30% silk blend. This July, we will debut our new “Alpaca Silk Lace” at the TKGA Conference. All our yarns come in Hand-Painted, Tonal, and Solid collections.

We hope you will join our Facebook fan page for updates on new yarns, colors, shows, announcements, etc., and join our Ravelry group.

We hope you love what you see (and feel). We believe in creating colorful luxury one small batch at a time. We’d be honored if you chose our yarn to make your next masterpiece!

I’ve just opened sign-ups for another year of Yarn Knot, my quarterly yarn subscription service. Each shipment includes a skein of hand-dyed, fingering-weight yarn along with a suggested pattern. Yarn Knot allows me to experiment with different fiber blends that aren’t part of my current lineup, and it’s a fun way for subscribers to try something new. All colorways are exclusive for one year. Payment options include either one-time or quarterly installments.

At Cuddlebums we have been experimenting with some new fabulously bright colour ways, including the stunning Dancing Fish. As well as working on a new range of gradient sock blanks and coming soon some shawl boxes.

And if thats not enough we have also launched our Birthday Cuddlebox range as a permanent product, perfect for those last minute gifts or when someone needs a pick me up. With the option of a knitting or crochet box I know these will make fantastic presents for the yarn lovers in your life (or yourself).

We will also be running a discount on our rainbows boxes throughout June so keep watching for that.

Two new luxury yarn bases have been added to the Pigeonroof Roof line, making their debut wearing the beautiful complex GLOW colorways.

The first one is Silky High Twist sock, a 2-ply fingering weight yarn that is 80% superwash Merino and 20% silk. It has the most wonderful feel, and the silk adds just that right amount of drape that would make this yarn amazing knit into garments and shawls.

The second one is Luxury Sock, a multi-plied construction fingering weight yarn made up of 70% superwash Merino, 20% Cashmere, and 10% nylon. This yarn is so incredibly buttery and soft you won’t want to put your knitting down!

Kits are now in the shop for designer Sarah Hurwitz’s Creamsicle from the newly released Pompom Quarterly Summer Issue 9!

This bobbly fun cardi is designed to make the most of my WIMBLEDON Sport blend — the squishiest 100% Superwash Merino (100g = 262 m/ 287 yds). This blend is ethically sourced from the happiest, most kindly treated sheep EVER…or so they tell me… (the mill, not the sheep) ;-D

I will be rolling out the full WIMBLEDON range of colours for this season over the next month.

The Melon Balls/Sherbert kits are in shop now with more colourway listings for the yarn hitting the virtual shelves on Friday 16th May at 5 p.m. GMT!

Stop by our website and check out the Brush Creek Shawl Kit, the latest addition to our collection. This design uses three distinct colors and shifts from dark to light. The kit includes the pattern and Mavis, a luxurious blend of Superwash Merino and Silk. The Brush Creek Shawl Kit is available in three different color combinations.

New, exclusive Antiprism shawl kits were added to the shop this week. A perfect transitional piece, the shawl is wide enough to be worn as a wrap on warmer days, or a scarf for chilly evenings!

A collaboration with designer Renee Callahan from EastLondonKnit, the garter-stitch shawl kit comes with 4 skeins of TWIST — the softest 100% Superwash British Bluefaced Leicester fingering/sock — in a range of colours (as shown) and a Ravelry pattern download code.
