I am excited to announce the launch of the Etsy shop for With Pointed Sticks Yarns!

I am a long-time knitter and spinner, and always on the lookout for new fiber-related hobbies. In the past few years, I have become obsessed with indie hand-dyed yarns, and which let to wanting to try my own hand-dyeing.

I ended up falling in love with the process, from choosing a color palette to watching how colors work together on a skein and experimenting with techniques.

The shop currently has two bases in stock:

Ballpoint Sock
Ballpoint pens are the go-to writing instrument, and this base is my go-to sock yarn! This squishy 2-ply is composed of 80% superwash merino and 20% nylon, making it perfect for socks, shawls, and garments. Skeins are 400 yards/100 grams.

Rollerball Worsted
Rollerball pens write smoothly, with just a little bit of “grab.” There’s a novelty to them, while they are still highly functional and a great stand-by, just like this base. Because this base is 100% non-superwash merino, it has a certain cozy, rustic feel to it, while its 4-plies make it smooth and durable. It’s ideal for hats, scarves, mittens, sweaters – anything meant to be cozy and warm on super cold days. Skeins are 218 yards/100 grams.

New bases and colorways will be arriving soon!

In addition to what is in stock, I accept custom orders. Don’t hesitate to get in touch! I’d love to work with you!

I am busy dying colors for winter and Christmas. Stop by for a special 12 days of Christmas set. Twelve full-sized skeins dyed in the Twelve Days of Christmas song colors. Or a set of 12 minis. Both sets are a pre-order until Thanksgiving day. Then they will be dyed up and mailed out the first week in December.

Stop by and have a look at the wonderful new colors, Old St Nick, and Frosty!! A self-striping Christmas, coming soon.

M K Nance often partners with indie dyers to create fun to knit accessories. Colorwork, cables, and lace all call to this designer. She just released her 47th pattern, a colorwork tam called Ripplebrook. She has worked with other Indie Untangled dyers like Black Trillium Fibres,
Blissful Knits, Lakes Yarn and Fiber and Three Fates Yarn.

It might only be October and technically spring here in Perth, but Summer has hit early and I’m already longing for the days when I could wrap myself up in something, anything knitted. A light shawl would do. Just something. Knitted. Instead I’m releasing the pattern I’d love to be wearing, if it was cooler.

Inspired by my love of colour, and Dark Harbour Yarn, Vexillology is an elongated diamond shaped fingering weight accessory that comes in two versions, a scarf and shawl. It features a stockinette centre panel that uses intarsia to create the colour blocks, and a garter two colour notched edge. Don’t worry if you haven’t tried intarsia before, I’ve included a tutorial to help you out!

Vexillology is available on Ravelry at 25% off until Midnight Monday 19th October, 2015. No coupon required.

It’s officially Fall and Indie Untangled is exactly a week away!

Mayan Puzzle is an updated version of the Aztec Mazes Pullover that Anne Hanson designed. It’s shown here in Bare Naked Wools Ghillie Sport/DK in Cream. Ghillie is a 100% Cheviot Wool Artisan Sock Yarn. This yarn is the perfect choice for any sweater or gansey. It’s light, airy, and hard-wearing. It offers a 3-ply construction which is going to give you excellent stitch definition.

Bare Naked Wools Confection Sport will wear like iron too. Confection is our 100% Corriedale Wool; it is an equally impressive natural wool choice that can also be used in this stunning long-lasting garment.

Mayan Puzzle is characterized by its texture. It’s strong and defined. Not only is it fun to work but it makes for a great show-stopping piece. It’s a garment that looks hard, but in actuality, is technically simple. Not only that, it looks great on both men and women! When you come to our booth be sure to ask about Mayan Puzzle and many of the other sweaters that we will have on display! Come see us and be inspired!

Hello from Greece,

I am launching a series of knitting kits with designs of several different designers. They will be available on my website as pre-orders and then there will be KALs, or knitting parties as I prefer to call them, hosted on Ravelry with the designer!!

Let the knitting begin!

I am happy to present to you with my first kit that features a brand new design by Maria Zilakou!

The kit includes:

* 1 skein of luxurious hand-dyed sock weight yarn, 50% Superwash Merino 50% Silk, with an option from 4 different colorways
100g (3,5 oz) 400m (437 yards)
EU Needles 2,25- 4,5 (US: 1-7)

* Pattern instructions

* 1 silkscreen printed project bag; the printing technique makes each bag unique.

* 1 set of Cubic interchangeable 4.5 mm (US 7) knitting needles

* 1 tapestry needle

If you choose the “without needles” option you will not receive the Cubic interchangeable needles.

The pre-orders will be running until the 12th of October, then you will give me some more time to prepare them… and, following that, we’ll be having a KAL, starting on the 16th of November until the 16th of December!

Those that finish their knitting before the KAL ends will have the chance to win the next upcoming kit, in the colorway of their choice!

SO, PRE ORDER YOURS NOW at www.treliz.eu/cycladespre AND STAY TUNED!

Embraceable You is a very feminine and elegant crescent shawl that can be worn as a shawl as well as a scarf and will warm you up during all the year.

This pattern is exclusive to my little yarn shop and is sold as a pre-order kit only.
Several colors are available, simply choose if you would like it striped or plain, choose your colors, place your order and let me know your choice. The kits will then be sent at the date mentioned in the listing. 🙂

Sample uses approximately 790 yards of Shleep Yarns Tussah Silk Fingering.
Finished measurements: 27.5 x 60 inches / 70 x 154 cm.

This pattern contains both charted and written instructions. The body is worked from the top down and the leaf lace border at the bottom is knit sideways across the bottom of the shawl.

Happy knitting!

Hello, yarn lovers! We’ve been heads-down working on SkeinMinders for the past several months, and the dye pots have been a bit neglected. But we’re coming out of hibernation just for Rhinebeck!

We’re excited to be part of the Indie Untangled Trunk Show for the second year, we can’t wait to leave the California heat behind and experience some real New York fall! We’ll be squishing as much of our vibrant yarn as we can into two suitcases and pouring our naturally-dyed rainbows into a small booth for you to enjoy. We’ll have:

Rangeland and Wander, our USA-made superwash Merino in fingering and DK weight
Mighty Fine Rambo, our Wyoming-grown and made super springy light fingering weight
Sylvan Sock, our Vermont-made, sturdier fine wool and tencel fingering-weight blend
and
Three Little Corries, our heavy sport-weight small farm Corriedale spun semi-woolen for lots of airy loft.

We can’t wait to see everyone!

I’m a life-long book collector. In addition to piles of books of knitting, fiction, art, counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, gardening, as well as a fair number of other things, I have always been attracted to stitch dictionaries, and little books of patterns on a given theme. All three motifs in these designs came from a slim volume of Swedish stranded colorwork designs that I’ve had so long that I no longer know where or when I acquired it. Once I had these lovely motifs working together, I needed a name for the cowl design. I thought that something Swedish would be appropriate. A dear friend of mine is actually from Sweden, so I went to her for inspiration. Without my telling her, she thought the main motif looked like berries, and so suggested Vinterbär for the cowl, which is Swedish for “winter berries.” When going for a name for the coordinating mitten pattern, Björnbär, I named it after the blackberries that grow wild around my house. I named this small leaflet after the main berry motif used in both designs, with a twist. It’s also in Swedish.

Both designs are knit in the round, and feature the same three stranded colorwork motifs, though the main motif on the back of the mittens has been slightly modified to work on a hand. The mittens can be worked whatever method best suits the knitter: DPNs, two circulars, magic loop, or anything else that gets the job done.
