LYS Day 2024 is fast approaching and, once again, I’m gearing up to celebrate everything I adore about local yarn shops. These cozy havens serve as more than just stores — they’re vibrant hubs where fiber enthusiasts gather to share their love and passion for all things yarn.

Established by TNNA members, Local Yarn Store Day is an annual homage to brick-and-mortar yarn shops. Now in its seventh year, this special day, slated for April 27th, is a testament to our collective support for small businesses and a unique opportunity to unite knitters, crocheters, weavers, and spinners in celebrating our craft. Both vendors and retailers are joining forces to showcase the distinct advantages of locally-owned yarn shops through an enticing array of special products, classes, and more. As one of these proud participants, I’m thrilled to contribute to the festivities once again.

The event has seen remarkable success in recent years, and I’m delighted to continue my involvement for the fifth consecutive year. Let’s ensure that LYS Day 2024 surpasses all expectations by spreading the word far and wide! Help me champion yarn shops across the U.S. and Canada by sharing your favorites with me using this form. You can even include a heartfelt “Love Letter” to express why they hold a special place in your heart.

I’ll personally extend invitations to them, inviting them to partake in this joyous occasion.

Together, let’s make LYS Day 2024 an unforgettable celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring charm of local yarn shops!

For this week’s newest addition, we’ve added a new color to our popular Sew on Tag lineup. Introducing: Ash Grey! This stunning new color is ready to adorn your beautiful work. For their grand debut, we’ve added this new color to all of the available options.

Each cork tag is laser etched so the details will never wash out or fade away. Cork is a renewable resource. It can safely be hand washed and air dried. All you need is a little bit of yarn, needle, and scissors to add a heartfelt message to any project.

Our Sweater Tags give you a quick way to easily identify the back of your sweater or other style of top. Whether this is a struggle for you or someone you gift a project to, these tags are just the ticket.

For the direct approach, we have ‘This is the Back.’ For subtle sass, we present you with ‘Not the Front.’ Or go for a mixed set of both. Which option is calling your name?

I was a knitter long before I was a dog mom. As when welcoming any new member of the family, adjustments had to be made with his arrival. I love knitting with wool, and Jake loved the smell of sheep. He soon learned that I had tasty woolly snacks all over the house, some rolled into balls perfect for munching, and some worked into elaborate meals with sleeves that could be dragged around and enjoyed slowly. Jake’s not with us anymore, but his love of woolly snacks came rushing back when I saw this fabric with it’s well-behaved, warm and cozy pooches. I thought of how they can look so innocent one second and tear your hard work to shreds the next, and the Bad Dog, No No! project bag followed. I embroidered a cozy sweater in Jake’s favorite, wool, over one of the dogs, and added a little snack to his too-innocent face. This is truly one of a kind, and the perfect bag for the “if you know, you know” knitter out there.

I’ve also added an extra large bag to my most recent drop, perfect for blanket projects or carrying several projects at once. New stitch markers and framed bags round out this pretty collection. Please have a look, and be sure to keep your projects safe from your beloved best friend.

The last week has been a whirlwind of activity, with unpacking from Unravel, getting new yarn batches onto the website and also preparing for our next show which is this weekend. East Anglia Yarn Festival is taking place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March at the Norfolk Showground Arena. For more information or to get tickets check out their website. We will be closed on Friday 8th March and so orders placed won’t be shipped until Tuesday 12th March. Laura is also not working on Friday and so email responses will be delayed until Monday.

After EAYF we will have new batches of Brimham 4ply, Bowland Aran and Keld Fingering to add to the website as soon as we are able to get it photographed so keep an eye out for these. The next yarn show confirmed in our schedule at this point is Buxton Wool Gathering on 18th and 19th May.

The Cloud Cowl is a versatile pattern that can easily be adapted in many ways as shown with the fluffy versions and the Yarnling™ version. We have reissued the pattern, adding a single-colour 4ply version and three options for different sizes of chunky cowls. We have rearranged the pattern so each version is written out in full on separate pages to avoid confusion. The pattern is available as a FREE download on our website, on Payhip and also available on Ravelry.

A group of dragons is called a thunder, due to the fact that all their wings beating makes a sound like rolling thunder.

Every month join us for this journey through lore, literature and film as we explore Twelve Dragons — stories of these magnificent creatures that are powerful, cunning, trusting and that love to, as we also do, hoard treasure.  In 2024 we will explore different dragons from all over the world, from their lore, stories and colors. Twelve new exclusive colors on Lucent as well as a collection of dragon-themed treasures, notions and collectables are entering the den every other month.

For our first dragon, we must leave our warm hobbit hole and venture deep into the mountains.
