My name is Stacey Rivera; owner, indie dyer, spinner and weaver behind RiverRat Yarn!

I have always loved painting with watercolor, acrylic, oil, any medium I could get my hands on!  Married to my high school sweetheart and best friend, an infantry Marine for over 30 years, I’ve had many careers over the years of changes in duty stations, but my true passion has always been my family and my art.

My great grandmother taught me to knit when I was very young. Creating with color, molding fiber into fabric became a great passion of mine. It was only natural and fluid to combine all of my passions together. So when my husband was getting ready to retire after 30 years, I took his call sign “RiverRat” and turned it into our next chapter: RiverRatArts & RiverRatYarn.

Moving to rural PA, we bought our very first home. The vibrant colors of the seasons of beautiful Pennsylvania never leave me lacking inspiration.

Pattern of the week – Makariri Shawl

Winter is on its way, so bundle yourself up in a shawl to help keep the cold at bay! Makariri (Maori for Winter) is a gorgeous oversized shawl, with subtle texture and squish, and eye-catching lace and colorwork. Let the garter stitch transport you to a scene of slow and peaceful living, it is a wonderfully meditative stitch. In my sample, I used white and two grey neutrals to reflect the cold yet magical feeling of winter. Perhaps you will choose more vibrant and warm colors to celebrate summer or spring? Regardless, let your intuition decide which colors to work together and watch the magic unfold and bloom.

Hi there, Indie Friends!!

I’m MC, the chronically knotty crafter behind Blame the Knots. I’m a yarn dyer and knit/crochet designer that is in love with all things nostalgic. I also live with chronic pain and fibromyalgia, and I try to let this guide my design by finding ways to elevate basics with a twist. 🥨

We have big things coming to the shop in the next few weeks! 2025 will be our second annual Hanksgiving, in which we celebrate the wonderful Tom Hanks and dye up a collection inspired by one of his movies in November.
