My name is Stacey Rivera; owner, indie dyer, spinner and weaver behind RiverRat Yarn!

I have always loved painting with watercolor, acrylic, oil, any medium I could get my hands on!  Married to my high school sweetheart and best friend, an infantry Marine for over 30 years, I’ve had many careers over the years of changes in duty stations, but my true passion has always been my family and my art.

My great grandmother taught me to knit when I was very young. Creating with color, molding fiber into fabric became a great passion of mine. It was only natural and fluid to combine all of my passions together. So when my husband was getting ready to retire after 30 years, I took his call sign “RiverRat” and turned it into our next chapter: RiverRatArts & RiverRatYarn.

Moving to rural PA, we bought our very first home. The vibrant colors of the seasons of beautiful Pennsylvania never leave me lacking inspiration.

I hope the passion and love I have for what I do is infused into my work and enables everyone to find something they love. You can always find my work on my website RiverRatYarn.com or on Instagram @RiverRatArts

We are really excited about our new colorways and hope you are too! Visit our website to see them and all the other new and exciting things we have in store!

How’s your holiday shopping coming? If you are still looking for beautiful, quality handmade bags, I’d love for you to take a look at the new bags coming to WoolNeedleThread next week. There will be holiday-themed project bags, zipper bags, and Sockses Boxes (both ho-ho-ho prints and more generally winter-themed prints), as well as gorgeous handbags and my very popular smaller backpacks.

My email subscribers have 24 hours of exclusive access before the bags go public. I’d be honored if you’d join the list. (I promise, I’m not an email-all-the-time kind of person.)

In the photos here you can see both project bags and a backpack that are available and ready to ship right now, as well as a sneak peek at a few of the bags coming next week. I hope you’ll take a look!

Winter is on its way, so bundle yourself up in a shawl to help keep the cold at bay! Makariri (Maori for Winter) is a gorgeous oversized shawl, with subtle texture and squish, and eye-catching lace and colorwork. Let the garter stitch transport you to a scene of slow and peaceful living, it is a wonderfully meditative stitch. And when the lace comes into play, enjoy the present as you spend a bit more time and concentration to make the stitch work its magic.

Use your creativity and imagination to pair your three favorite colorways together to paint a scene. In my sample, I used white and two grey neutrals to reflect the cold yet magical feeling of winter. Perhaps you will choose more vibrant and warm colors to celebrate summer or spring? Regardless, let your intuition decide which colors to work together and watch the magic unfold and bloom.

Be prepared to fall in love with your new shawl, as you wrap yourself up in it, pairing it with your favorite winter coat. Step outside into the crisp air, perhaps with a slight spring in your step, as you face a new day in your new shawl.

Hi there, Indie Friends!!

I’m MC, the chronically knotty crafter behind Blame the Knots. I’m a yarn dyer and knit/crochet designer that is in love with all things nostalgic. I also live with chronic pain and fibromyalgia, and I try to let this guide my design by finding ways to elevate basics with a twist. 🥨

We have big things coming to the shop in the next few weeks! 2025 will be our second annual Hanksgiving, in which we celebrate the wonderful Tom Hanks and dye up a collection inspired by one of his movies in November. Right now, we are in the middle of revealing colorways for our collection inspired by Big. This collection will be releasing November 11 and I can’t wait for you to see it!

As an exclusive for my new Indie friends, use the code indie15 on my website and Ravelry for 15% off your order. Stock up on yarn and patterns through November 30th!

You can find me as Blame the Knots (or blametheknots) everywhere! I can’t wait to get to know you!

Take Care of You,
-MC

There’s a special sort of anticipation that comes with the turning of the year. There’s the quiet thrill of unwrapping a secret, the promise of color waiting just beneath the paper.
This December, Which Way Crafts invites you to join us for a month-long fiber adventure with our 2025 Midnight Skein Society Calendar.

Each box is a story in itself:
Ten hand-dyed mini skeins and one full-sized skein
Two sets of artisan stitch markers
Curated seasonal teas
A digital daily postcard featuring a companion tale and color inspiration
A community knit-along and blog beginning December 1st

Rather than revealing the contents, we’re keeping the mystery intact. Every parcel is meant to be discovered day by day, much like the unfolding chapters of a favorite novel.

The design draws from the explorer aesthetic that defines the Midnight Skein Society: think vintage trunks, candlelight, and the scent of wool mingling with distant adventure.

Special Offer: Save 10% with code MYSTERY10 till November 23rd.

This is not tied to any single tradition or holiday. It’s a celebration of creativity, curiosity, and the small rituals that bring warmth to the waning year. Whether you knit, crochet, or simply collect treasures, each day’s reveal is a pause, a moment to make something beautiful.

Now is the perfect time to elevate your fall knitwear, crocheted projects, and handwoven items! Discover the perfect blend of art and functionality with our exquisite collection of handmade shawl pins and shawl sticks. Each unique piece is fair trade, inspired by ancient and contemporary designs from around the world, and tells a unique story, whether it features traditional symbolism, nature-inspired elements, or modern minimalist style. They are the essential finishing touch for your favorite shawls, wraps, and cardigans.

But here’s the crucial news: we are discontinuing all Shawl Pins & Shawl Sticks at the end of this year to make room for exciting new designs coming in 2026! This is your last chance to shop your favorite styles of these handmade, fair trade adornments. Don’t miss the opportunity to grab these versatile, collectible pieces before they are gone forever. Shop now and perfect your autumn look!

The Zodiac Scarf Knit-Along Advent with Wooly Owl Fibers

Each preorder includes 24 hand-dyed mini skeins, inspired by the colors and moods of the zodiac. Starting January 1st, 2026, you’ll open a new package at the beginning of each month. Inside, you’ll find two mini skeins representing that month’s zodiac sign.

This is a slow project meant to unfold over the year, something you can pick up a little at a time and enjoy watching grow. Each month brings a new color inspired by the zodiac, building toward a stunning, celestial-inspired scarf. By December, you’ll open your final skeins and have a piece that reflects the magic of all 12 signs.

Whether you knit or crochet, this project is meant to bring calm, connection, and color to your year.

It’s time for a treat! As a valued Indie Untangled reader, you can save 15% on every single item in our ADORNMENTS category this Halloween! Simply use the coupon code INDIE15 at checkout now through November 5, 2025. This exclusive offer is your chance to discover the ultimate styling solution for your knitwear, crochet pieces, and handwoven projects, including our revolutionary Charm Lock collection of shawl pins, cuffs, and combinations.

The heart of this collection is the flexible, serpentine-shaped Charm Lock component. When featured in our pins and cuffs, it allows you to easily slide decorative charms (like the delightful Dragonfly Charm) on or off and then “lock” them securely in place with the stick. This gives the piece a unique, kinetic feel, though you can also wear the pin on its own for a sleek statement. The Charm Lock can also be paired with our single-wrap or double-wrap shawl cuff styles — all fair trade and ready to style your handmade projects. Use code INDIE15 now to save 15% on shawl pins, shawl sticks, clasps, shawl cuffs, and more!
