The weather is just starting to think about turning, and you might be just starting to think about needing a light scarf to keep the chill off… not yet… but in a month or so? I have a suggestion.

Concrete Jungle is a repetitive knit that holds your interest through a gorgeous gradient yarn (Muruk, a silk/yak blend from Bilum Yarns), and some fun stepped ends. It’s inspired by the glow of sunset on city skyscrapers, but also by the need for an office-appropriate neck warmer.

Grab it for 20% less until Sunday. No code required on Ravelry; on Payhip you can use the code SKYSCRAPER to get the discount.

Get ready for the cool, fall weather in this homage to the cute cardigans worn by the character of Bernadette in The Big Bang Theory. Bernie is a famously short, sweet, and sassy microbiologist who wore a cropped cardi over an adorable dress through most of the series. She must’ve had one in 20 different colors, and it’s easy to see why — they’re versatile enough to wear with skirts or jeans, so you may need to knit one in more than one color, too.

This top-down design is worked up in fingering weight yarn and is completely seamless. Get the pattern at 30% off on Ravelry or Payhip with the code “feelthebern” now through Sunday, Aug. 23rd.

The Un Besito Snack Pack has 12 yummy 10g yarn balls, packaged in a fun bakery box! Peak through the window at the top, to see the treasures inside. Many of these sets are limited editions, so grab them when you can! The sets feature our Smooches Fingering Weight yarn. It is a super soft 75% Merino/25% nylon yarn that has an amazing feel next to your skin!

Snack Packs make great gifts for knitters, crocheters, or of course, for you!

Wow! I can’t believe we are about to celebrate 10 years as a business! What started as a few skeins of yarn and roving that I dyed up as an experiment, has grown into an enterprise full of color, and patterns. I have met so many wonderful customers and friends through traveling to festivals and events, and deeply miss seeing everyone this year.

Originally, my goal was to have a big anniversary sale at my fall festivals this year. Of course, those are no longer happening, so I’m taking it online! You will get 10% off of every purchase, and free shipping on purchases of $100 or more. Our anniversary sale begins this Friday, August 21 and will run through August 28.

Our yarns are inspired by authors or literary characters, many of whom speak to us at a deeper level as we collectively address issues of racism, acting for the collective good, and standing for what is right. Which inspiration speaks to you?

Will you dare to be yourself like Wilbur, and support your friends because you believe in them like Charlotte did in E.B. White’s classic Charlotte’s Web? Grab some of our fingering weight “Charlotte” base, and create colorful unique projects!

Are you standing tall in the face of adversity, and doing what is right like Patty Lovel’s heroine in Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon? Make a statement with our worsted “Molly” base.

Or sport-weight “Faith,” inspired by author and mixed media artist Faith Ringgold, who has faced hardship and personal struggles, but instead of lashing out, uses it to fuel her creativity. Look in amazing books such as Tar Beach for Ms. Ringgold’s use of color and pattern, but even more importantly, the story within.

Maybe you are a truth-seeker, such as Harriet in Louise Fitzhugh’s Harriet the Spy, or Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg? They may be opposite ends of the spectrum, but both women (fictional or real) want nothing more than to understand and uphold the truth. Read Justice Ginsburg’s My Own Words for more. “Harriet” is a fingering-weight superwash, and “Ruth” a fingering-weight Merino singles.

Check out our literary yarns, and grab a few skeins for your next big fall project. And don’t forget to tag us on Instagram, @spencerhilldyer!

We love gray at Gothfarm Yarn.

It’s one of the most common fleece colors; sheep, goats and alpacas all come in shades of gray. Since all our yarn is made from undyed, naturally colored fibers, that means a great, gray color palette that we blend to produce some of our most popular yarns.

There’s Gabbro, a mottled, tweedy blend of Jacob Sheep wool and black mohair; Nebelung, a matte-steel blend of carbonized bamboo and Coopworth sheep locks; and Carbonado, a tri-blend yarn with silver gray halo from Gotland sheep fleece. (The yarn’s primary black hue comes from a blend of true black alpaca and East Friesian wool.)

The different fibers give each yarn a different look and feel, so make sure to visit our website for more information on each one. Our mini-skein set, pictured here in the aptly named Grayscale, is also a great way to sample the yarn.

Our gray fibers extend to roving, too. Handspinners, needle felters, weavers and fiber artists: Check out out Jacob Sheep wool roving and Coopworth sheep wool roving to add some great, gray raw materials to your stash.

Hello my crafty friends!

This month’s collection is inspired by the legends and lore of the Sirens or Mermaids. They appear in a plethora of cultures worldwide — legends often tell of mermaids singing to sailors, enchanting them, and luring them to their death.

I had fun experimenting with color on different bases and chose a handful that I really loved. And so the Gothic Mermaid Collection was born! It is available on the majority of my yarn bases including my new non-Superwash fingering weight yarn. My collections usually sell out fast so be sure to stop by my online shop to snag yourself something lovely before they are all gone.

Congrats to Anna Kollár in Hungary! She won this month’s yarn giveaway — a delicious skein of my Poseidon Super Bulky Pencil Roving in the colorway “Rosewood.” I kettle dye these in small batches. Many have sold out but I am getting another shipment in this week so I am dusting off my stock pots for the next batch!

If you would like to enter my monthly yarn giveaway, be sure to follow me on Instagram @maelstromfiberarts! You can also follow me on YouTube for more information.

Stay safe and crafty!

Hello crafty people!

I have a new shawl design called Froth that uses either three full-sized fingering-weight skeins (100 grams each) OR… drumroll… 12 mini skeins in naturally-dyed colors!

The mini skein sets are in my fingering weight Superwash Merino and nylon blend and feature colors from nature like Avocado, Blueberry, Cochineal, Logwood, Chlorophyll (from algae!), Sand Cherry, Indigo and Madder Root, just to name a few.

The mini skein sets are available for preorder in my shop and will be ready to ship in 1-2 weeks. Whats more, is the pattern for Froth is included in your mini skein set as well as free shipping to the continental United States. Yay! Treat yourself or know someone who loves natural products? This would be a lovely gift to give.

About the pattern:
Froth is a celebration of color. A simple repeated lace pattern is worked at an accelerated increase, accentuates the blending of colors and shapes this triangular shawl. Use 12 mini skeins or three full-sized skeins.
