Fall is almost upon us. This means colder weather, warmer knits, and the joy of finally getting to knit sweaters, hats and toques after enduring a crazy hot summer!

After a few months of thinking, we decided that “warmth” had to be at the heart of our fall collection. We wanted to bring warmth to you not only through our (wonderful) wool, but also through colors and what they evoke. Rich browns, soft yellows and deep reds make the base of our collection. We complement these base tones with bright pink mohairs, a dash of orange and a bam of moss green. With those colors, we hope to transmit the essence of what fall is: a beautiful season to pull round and enjoy a slow transition to winter.

We hope you get to enjoy it with lots of love and wool, and do hope to be part of your knitting journey.

1st class: Knitting with Beads and Sequins: Why not?! Ever considered incorporating some beads or even sequins into a sweater? In this class we will explore ideas to make a unique sweater with your own twist! Participants will be taught how to work bead knitting and (if you like the idea) how to add sequins as well. Participants will receive a few charts with beading ideas (for circular yoke, for cabled fabric, cuffs, etc).

2nd class: Knitting the Petite Boxy! Class Details:
With a fitted yoke, fitted sleeves, some ease on the body, and a “kinda” cropped shape, the petite boxy is a sweater for everyone! In this class, we’ll break down and explore the steps to knit your new favorite sweater! Participants will receive a sweater pattern as a gift. The pattern will be helpful as a guide to follow the steps of the Top-down seamless circular yoke sweater.

We are approaching cooler temperatures and that means it’s time to start thinking about fall festivities! Preorders are open for our Halloween mystery stitch marker sets. You’ll receive 13 individually-wrapped, hand-sculpted miniature stitch markers. They will all evoke Halloween and can be objects, animals, and perhaps even some costumed animals. You’ll have to order to find out! All orders ship toward the end of September. The glow-in-the-dark stitch marker pictured is a sneak peek!! Please purchase this set separately so the rest of your order isn’t delayed as well.

This month’s surprise set of six stitch markers is called For the Birds. Fitting for 2020, don’t you think? I assure you that despite the title, the set is unique and lovely.

Named for an Emily Dickinson poem, this sweet boomerang-shaped shawl uses only two skeins of sock yarn and begins with a tiny one-stitch cast on. The solid color sections make for practically mindless knitting while the slip-stitch colorwork is much easier than it looks — you only every use one strand of yarn at a time, and just slip a stitch here and there.

The pattern is on sale at 25% off on both Ravelry and Payhip with the code hope2020 through Sunday, Sept 6th, or you can get the pattern for free when you sign up for the Lyrical Knits newsletter (you’ll be sent a welcome email with download instructions once you confirm your subscription).

For those of us who are so lucky to have a knitter in their lives, the biggest quandary of all is WHAT TO GET A KNITTER AS A GIFT. Obviously, a knitter LOVES yarn, needles, tools, etc… but it’s so hard to work out what the best yarn would be, what kind of needles a knitter prefers. Gift certificates kind of work, but it’s always fun to have something to unwrap — in particular if that something to unwrap is SHINY! Or perhaps you need a gift for your knitting self, in which case, I say SHINY!

Yank Your Yarn is now carrying four different gift sets that knitters would love to receive. Each set contains 25 markers: two sets of 10 markers in different sizes (random colors) and five movable markers, in a handy storage box.

SOCK KNITTER GIFT SET: 10 round markers in US1/2.25mm, 10 round markers in US3/3mm, and five Reversa-Clippy double sided markers

“MIDDLE OF THE ROAD” SET: 10 round markers in US6/4mm, 10 round markers in US10/6mm, and five Reversa-Clippy double sided markers (IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT SIZE MARKERS TO GET FOR YOUR KNITTER, GET YOUR KNITTER THIS ONE)

“BIG NEEDLE” SET: 10 round markers in US13/9mm, 10 round markers in US15/10mm, and five Reversa-Clippy double sided markers

“YOU’RE SO SQUARE” SET: 10 square beaded markers in US6/4mm, 10 round markers in US8/5mm, and five Reversa-Clippy double sided markers (IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT SIZE MARKERS TO GET FOR YOUR KNITTER, GET YOUR KNITTER THIS ONE)

Each set is $24. Yank Your Yarn offers free U.S. shipping, discounted shipping to the rest of the world and a free gift with every order!

There are so many exciting announcements from our studio this week!

First is the announcement of our new base collection! This collection is inspired by gemstones and will continue to be expanded in the future. These will always be available in our studio for purchase as opposed to our limited time collections. Currently, we have 11 colorways in this collection.

To celebrate the release of our base collection, we will be hosting a Knit-a-Long! The pattern we will be doing is the beautiful Waiting for Rain shawl by Sylvia McFadden. We are extremely excited to be able to showcase our new base collection with this gorgeous pattern! The Knit-a-Long will be for the one color pattern, but for those that are up for a challenge, the pattern also comes with modifications to add a second color, more lace, and different cast-offs. We will be listing color combinations to choose from for those who want two colors. This knit-a-long will run from November 1st to December 31st.

During the Knit-a-long, we will host a weekly Knit and Sip via Zoom Wednesday nights from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM PST, so that you can hang out and chat with other knitters. Break out your favorite tea or drink and join us. You can be a part of the Zoom calls by joining our new Community Group on Facebook. Not only will you finish this knit-a-long with a beautiful new shawl, there will also be giveaways for participants along the way! We are so excited to have you join us. The kits for the knit-a-long will be available for purchase through the month of September in order to give us time to dye before the start date in November.

The next on our list of announcements is our first annual Advent Calendar! These gift boxes will include 24 individually packaged mini skeins to open throughout December and one full skein to open on Christmas. All of the yarn in this calendar is in our signature fingering weight base, Andromeda. There will also be lots of little gifts and surprises in each day’s box as well. This is a perfect gift for yourself or your favorite fiber artist this Christmas. There will be a few “traditional” Christmas-themed skeins, as well as a variety of jewel tones and timeless colors that can be used in a variety of projects!

Not only will we have our yarn Advent calendar this year, we will also have a stitch marker Advent calendar available for the avid collector. You will receive daily presents to open with unique, handmade stitch markers, and on Christmas you will receive one of our new Analog Row Counters. Both the yarn and stitch marker advent calendars will be available for pre-order until September 30th. You don’t want to miss out.

And the announcements just keep coming! We are also excited to announce the release of our Stardust Yarn Club and Sock of the Month Club subscription boxes! This once a month box is the perfect gift for both knitters and crocheters. Each month will have a fun theme and surprises along with the hand-dyed skeins. If you have a certain weight of yarn you want, but aren’t sure of the color, you can also pick up one of our new mystery boxes. You pick the weight; we pick the colorway!

Take a look at the website to check out these new and exciting additions to the studio and to see our new products like our marker keeper necklaces, handmade analog row counters, progress charms and notion tins.

Keep an eye out in the next coming weeks for the debut of our next limited time collection. We will be posting videos twice a week so that you can join us for all of the fun. Be sure to like and subscribe to our channel, follow us on Instagram, like us on Facebook and join our new Facebook group to stay up to date on all the new and exciting things from our studio.

The high today in Central PA is finally less than 80, and I am here.for.it! Spring and Summer were such a mess…not just because of COVID, but I had some major personal challenges, including losing my job that I was insanely passionate about. And while some view fall as a sign that all things change — “and yet, change mocks us with her beauty” (Thanks, Olaf!) — I love the promise of change. That none of these challenges are forever.

Wearing sweaters and leg warmers and wool socks and shawls and hats is always a bonus, of course! I’ve already been mapping out all the projects I plan on starting, in the hopes that I might finish one or two this year!

Which is why it’s a good thing our Grace Bags are back in stock! These are hands down my favorite bags, especially because I can have a project in it, plus a pattern pocket, PLUS a small project in it’s own Kellie bag in there!

This bag has been my go-to purse all summer, too. It’s so lightweight, and the strap makes it convenient, no matter which way I want to carry it.

I would love for you to tag me on Instagram @rocksoliddesigns with your fall projects, and let me know which season is your favorite!

Our exploration of Tie Dye-inspired yarn, has finally led us to releasing the “Tie Dye Your Knits” kit.

At the beginning of Summer, I created the Tye Dye Yarn Collection, a series of Tie Dye-inspired yarn, a series of three fun cheerful colors: Cosmic Tye Dye, Lavender Highlights and Ombres Skies, which are now also available in Mohair Silk. However, while having Tye Dye-inspired yarn was amazing, it still did not satisfy the full Tie Dye look I was hoping to achieve at The Wandering Flock, so I decided the create the “Tie Dye Your Knits” kit, a DIY tie dye kit, where we encourage you to Tie Dye your FO.

The kit comes with two skeins of Organic Pima Cotton Yarn in DK weight, the Tilly Crop Top Knitting Pattern, which is a quick easy knit, and all the materials and dye needed to tie dye your project. Don’t think you could tie dye your FO? Well, the beauty of our kit is that you can tie dye the yarn instead. We have two color choices available: PeriPinkie Winkie and Cosmic Speckles.

The kits are available for preorder until August 31st and will be shipped the following week. After all the kits have shipped, I will be hosting two Zoom Tie Dye Party sessions, where we’ll demo various tie dye techniques, how to manipulate to dye to get the shade you like and all the tips and tricks we know to get the results you want — kinda like a virtual workshop, but we like the sound of a party better.

Each kit comes with enough dye to also tie dye a couple of T-shirts with your tie dyed FO. We do have a limited amount of kits available and additional skeins can be bought with your kits.

This week I’ve put a bunch of colorways on special sale, and I don’t want you to miss the chance to scoop up your favorites! I’m “reworking” some of my own favorite colorways, retiring a few for the season (some maybe longer) and making space for the new cool weather beauties that are coming. I’ll be sharing more details about what’s staying, going, or evolving soon. In the meantime, take a peek at the sale yarn and grab it if you love it. Some of these won’t be back, or won’t be quite the same.

I’m offering free shipping on orders of $100 or more. Just enter the code ThankYou at checkout for free shipping in the U.S. (Also, if you’re outside the U.S. and would like to take advantage of this, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do for you!)

Take advantage of great prices on these Last Chance Yarns and colorways you may not see again and help me make room for exciting new yarn. Sale specials feature MANY customer favorites like Lava Lamp, Raven, Acid Washed, and Field of Wildflowers!

Bubble Tea Shawl is releasing on Friday, August 28th! It will be available on both Ravelry and Payhip.

Bubble tea isn’t just a pretty Instagram-able beverage, it’s also delicious and fun. Just like how super speckled yarn isn’t just pretty and Instagram-able, it’s also fun! It can be hard to find a pattern that will play nice with all those colorful speckles. This one-skein shawl features a simple lace pattern meant to show off all the fun colors in a highly speckled skein of hand-dyed yarn. Instructions are included so you can maximize your yardage used. Bubble tea is a half circular shawl that is light and airy enough to wear any time of year.

I used a single skein of Hawari Bazaar Anpanman on Nova Sock that I had been hoarding away in a prized position of my stash. I wanted to create a shawl that would allow the lace pattern and extremely speckled yarn to complement each other rather than fight for dominance. I think the result is a super fun and wearable shawl!

Bubble Tea is a top down half circle shawl. There is a garter stitch selvedge along the top edge of the shawl. Instructions for maximizing your yarn used are included in the pattern. You could even use multiple skeins to make an extra large shawl!

Save 10% now through September 4th to celebrate the release! No coupon code needed on Ravelry, on Payhip use code BUBBLETEAISYUMMY
