This month we are offering a new Stockinette Stitch Swatch Necklace and In Case Of A Stitch Marker Emergency Necklace. We have a new bronze shawl pin with the Stockinette Stitch Motif and additions to the Space Age line of 3D printed steel shawl pins and rings.

Porterness Studio will have a spot at Stitches SoCal in Pasadena Nov. 1-4, 2018. We’ll have new designs that won’t be on our website until the end of November. We’re sharing #412 booth with Gather DTLA Yarn Store and both of us are participating in the stitch marker swap.

Gather DTLA will be carrying Stravaigin Yarn Co., natural dyed yarns from Canada, for the first time in the US and not yet available online. Gather will also bring Quince, Bunny Muff Designs, Hilo y Piedra, The Dye Project and Elevated Fibers (which think is made with butter not silk. It’s sooooo soft)!

My mother, Carol of Carol Nina Knits, designed a lovely knitting pattern, Put A Ring On It, for our sash rings. She will also be at Stitches, so make sure you check out her other amazing designs.

Here at McMullin Fiber Co. we’re celebrating our favorite month with our annual Socktoberfest Celebration. We like to get into the spirit of the knitting season with a big sale and some fantastic giveaways. Here are the basics:

Everything in the shop is 25% off till October 31st. Every item purchased between now and midnight of the 31st means one entry into our mega-drawing. On November 1st we’ll pick six winners. In the order they’re drawn they get to choose the prize they covet most. New in the Western Sky Knits shop, I have some mohair/silk 1-ply lace weight skeins.

My skeins have 458 yards/419 meters to 50 grams. You probably know mohair yarn for the beautiful halo it creates on fabric. If you’ve picked up a fuzzy store-bought sweater that feels light as a cloud, chances are you’ve picked up a mohair or mohair blend garment.

Mohair comes from the Angora goat, and keeps you warm in cold temperatures, and wicks away moisture to keep you cool in the summer. The silk in this blend gives the yarn a bit of a sheen, and adds strength. All of these properties make it a great carry along yarn for many projects.

If you want to make something truly indulgent, try carrying along a strand of mohair with your yarn the next time you make socks or a hat! The mohair strand is thin and light, and won’t change your knitting guage, and will feel indulgent and warm next to the skin. The silk acts like nylon, creating a stronger, harder-wearing fabric.

Just added today, is a new single-ply DK-weight yarn. It is 100% Superwash Merino, and the dyes have a lovely bright quality on this base. Shown here in Mother Lode and Iris.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been active on the Indie Untangled blog and I’d like to reintroduce myself. Western Sky Knits is my small indie-owned yarn and fiber dyeing business. I live and work on a cattle ranch in Montana with 1,500 head of cattle, my husband and our three boys. I also knit, spin, and serve on the local education board. The winters are cold and harsh here. I’m just a California girl trying to stay warm in Montana!

NYSW Preview and Changes at Spirit Trail Fiberworks

I’m headed to the New York Sheep and Wool Festival this weekend, where I’ve been a vendor for the past 14 years. You’ll find us in our regular spot in Building A, Booths 3-4 (just inside the main entrance, on the right side and down a bit).

I have a lots of new colors coming with me to the Festival; I’ve included just a few here. I’m bringing a ton of yarn, in lots of bases — everything from laceweight to super bulky: Nona, Philomena, Aurora, Sunna, Selene, Birte, Andromeda, Luna, Verdande, and Zaftig. I’m also bringing, for the first time, mini-skeins of Philomena which will be available for purchase in a few gradient kits and lots of single skeins so you can pick your own.

Fun extras coming to my booth are logo enamel camp mugs, temporary knitting-themed tattoos, gleener de-piller tools, and a special set of stitch markers made for me by Katy at Katrinkles.

I have been in the midst of some huge personal changes this year: both my kids headed off to college, and my husband and I are splitting up after 22 years. I’m in some major transitioning, and may actually be moving pretty far away from where I now live. I’ve written about all this in much more detail on my blog, so if you’re interested in reading more about it please check out my blog. Suffice to say, it’s been a crazy, stressful year!

With everything so up in the air, this may or may not be my last year vending at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival. I know it will be my last with my current booth set-up (I may go back to a single booth rather than a double, and a different overall booth set-up, but everything is too up in the air right now to say for sure what 2019 will bring). I made the decision last month that I will no longer be vending at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival and, while I’d absolutely love to continue vending at NY, I won’t know until my future plans and move are finalized to say one way or the other.

I’m offering some specials and discounts over the course of NYSW weekend, in hopes that you’ll support me and Spirit Trail Fiberworks by purchasing something from me at the Festival.

Here’s the run down (and these will all be posted in my booth, too):

What is an “unclub”? An unclub is a series of kits delivered over a three-month period of time that can be purchased each month. Perhaps you are not sure about the kits or maybe coming up with $150 right away is just not in the budget. Yarn will be inspired by scenes, characters or locations from the season. You will also receive special gifts: one month we have an amazing project bag by 3 Fox Hollow, another month will be a commemorative set of stitch markers based the featured cast of Outlander Season 4 and the last one will be a very special secret surprise.

You will be given the opportunity to order additional skeins each month, and then they will be put in the vault until 2019.
