As August comes to a close and autumn draws near, I’ve been very busy over at Sweet Sheep preparing all sorts of fun fall scents for my super moisturizing, lanolin-containing lotion bars. To make room for cozy spicy things like Apple Butter and Pumpkin Spice, the spring and summer scents must go! The following lotion bar scents are on sale for 25% off:

Carnation
Coconut Lime
Chipotle Caramel
Fresh Mango
Honey Beeswax
Sea Moss
Spring Meadow

Once these scents sell out, they won’t be re-stocked until next year. (Have no fear, however: you can always request a bar through a custom order.) The bars have a very long shelf life (up to 2 years) due to their lack of water and the stable, anti-oxidant oils I use in my recipe. This means that if you purchase a summer-scented bar now, it will still be fine to use next time the warmer weather comes around!

Also, a small PSA: as of September 1st I will be raising prices by approx. 5% to more adequately cover my costs. So now’s the time to grab your bar or lip balm at their current prices!

I think that some of the most beautiful stitch patterns are the timeless patterns of the traditional fisherman’s guernseys. I wish that I had more time to knit a guernsey for myself, but in its stead, I’ve put together a much faster knitting project to keep one just as warm when the cool weather creeps in: The Whitby Hat & Cowl. Relying on the repetition of two century-old guernsey stitch patterns from the British Isles, this hat and cowl are a perfect match! The Whitby stitch pattern, represented by the closely-constructed Jacob’s Ladder sections and the Scarborough stitch pattern, represented by the bulky cable, combine so well that they are sure to catch the eye of every passerby.

The hat and the cowl, named for the town of Whitby, which is located on the River Esk in Yorkshire, are knit using my own hand dyed Flock 195 (Cedar Hill Farm Company) in Tanzanite. Knitted up on a 16-inch circular US 9 (5.5mm) needle, the duo require a total of 410 yards (375m) of worsted weight yarn. (Flock is a 3-ply, but a 10-ply worsted weight can be substituted.) The pattern is charted and written and includes suggestions for modification of size for each piece. As promised, the Whitby Place Hat & Cowl pattern has been released and is now available for download on Etsy, Ravelry, and Craftsy. This cowl, particularly, has become a favorite of mine already, and I am sure it will be a favorite of yours, too, for years to come!

Continuing with the Emperor Otho, The Twelve Caesars Collection is a monthly tribute to the first twelve Caesars of the Roman Empire. Never heard of Otho? He only lasted for 95 days!

The update goes live on the website on Friday 29th August at 7pm UK time and will comprise of batches of yarn and fibre that are one of a kind and not repeatable.

I’ll be having an update tomorrow, Saturday August 23 at 11 am at the Etsy shop. I have two new yarns for the offering: a Silk and Linen lace and an MCN Lace.

I will also be having another pre-order event in September. Pre-Orders are a great time to get a sweater quantity, or that specific yarn in a specific color. There are no minimum orders so even if you just want one skein you can get that one skein.

I don’t know about you, but as the thermometer continues to threaten to burst from the heat, I’m longing for cooler weather and thinking about all of those accessories on my autumn knitting list. So, in that vein, new color ways in 100% pure Peruvian wool (worsted weight) have begun arriving in the Cedar Hill Farm Company Etsy shop.

These eye-popping hanks (Flock label) are 195 yards (178 m) and weigh in at 3.6 oz (102 g). Thick, squishy, and bursting with kettle-dyed color, these pure wool hanks won’t hang around long. These hanks are dyed in uniform dye lots, so each new color way listing is for dyed-to-match color ways (slight variation in color pattern due to the kettle dying process may be present). And since I’m dreaming of frosty evenings, I’ve worked up a new worsted weight hat & cowl pattern for this label that will be hitting the Cedar Hill Farm Company Ravelry shop in the next week or two: the Whitby Place Hat & Cowl. So, be on the look-out!

Also new to the Cedar Hill Farm Company Etsy shop are sumptuous new hanks of DK weight extra fine alpaca (Cielo DK label) in never-before-dyed color ways. This DK weight alpaca is my favorite go-to yarn for fingerless gloves and baby sweaters. Each hank is 230 yards (210 m) and weighs in at 3.6 oz (102 g). One hank is usually enough for a classically beautiful pair of cabled gloves (like my Elegy Fingerless Mitts, available on Etsy and Ravelry). Most basic infant sweater patterns can also be accomplished with just one hank.

So if you are dreaming of cooler weather and all of those snuggly, warm things that you’ve been waiting all summer to knit, stop by Cedar Hill Farm Company for a little look-see. Who knows, you might just fall in love!

We are so excited to have paired with accomplished pattern designer Hilary Smith Callis to create a fun-to-knit project kit. Luna Viridis is a deeply textured cowl worked up in Luna Grey Fiber Arts Celeste yarn. It begins as a semi-circular shawl with a Stockinette Stitch center worked flat, and is then joined and worked in the round to create a circular piece that mimics a shawlette wrapped around the neck. Little green crescent moons adorn the cowl, encircling the majority of it, and are separated by simple bands of Garter Stitch. Using just one skein of a pretty sock yarn, this is a fun knit, and a great way to add a pop of color and texture to any outfit.

The kit, available here, comes complete with a PDF file of Hilary’s detailed Luna Viridis cowl pattern as well as one skein of Luna Grey Fiber Arts Celeste yarn in your colorway of choice.

We’ve added some bling to the shop!! 100% nylon Firestar is ideal for blending with other fibers to add a little sparkle and strength to your spinning projects, such as in sock heels and toes. It can also be spun alone! It can be carded to blend, added to batts or spun and plied with another strand of wool, etc. While nylon will not felt by itself, you can add a bit to your felting projects to get that needed shine. Pretty and versatile, who knew?

We have put together mixed batches of Firestar to allow for more creative freedom. Are you a Diva? Cowgirl? Nature Lover? Surfer? We have a set for you! Stop by and take a look.

Hello, it’s a bit of a bumper update from me again. There’s a nice mixture of Adventure Time, Final Fantasy and some limited edition Halloween yarns to be added.

So, let’s start with the Adventure Time yarns. They almost round off the entire collection. To begin with I’ve dyed up another skein of Lady Rainicorn. I’ve had a few custom orders for this colourway, and last time it was for general purchase it sold very quickly. So, if you want it – get to the shop! There’s also two new yarns joining the flock – how could I do an AT series without the two most righteous dudes, it’s FINN and JAKE!

Jake is a totally gown-up blend of mustardy yellow, black and white and would make tops bloopy socks for anyone. While Finn is a bright, energetic blend of greens, blues and white, so you can match the sartorial choices of the lumping coolest human ever.

Now, let’s move on to the Halloween yarns! There are three on the Unicorn Sock base, and three on the Cait Sith DK base (which is a lovely plumpcious Jacob wool).

First, let’s talk about my inspiration. Clearly the coolest witches in Halloween history – the Sanderson sisters!

Are you a Winnie, Mary or a Sarah? Winnie is a blend of greens and blues all topped off with a carrotty orange – just like her hair! Mary is a witchy blend of red, brown, purple are orange – understated but punchy, like the lady herself! Sister Sarah is a ladylike blend of purples and pinks – rocking the perfect eerie-girly combo, and is also available in DK weight.

Also on the DK base are No Nicer Witch Than You (a candy-spattered mix of white, pink, purple and turquoise) and The Black Flame Candle (a bewitching brew of white, black, orange and purple).

And last, but not least is a very special yarn. I’m a really dedicated Final Fantasy fan – and I’ve become absolutely obsessed with FF XIV recently. So, I knew what the Moonfire Faire special event began I KNEW I had to make a special yarn.

Throughout August 14 and September 8 I will be stocking the shop with very special OOAK skeins inspired by the festival. If you like one, be sure to grab it, because these skeins will not be replicated.

So, the update is tomorrow – August 18 at 7pm (BST), I hope to see you there!
