I’d like to pretend that summers are lazy and full of time for knitting and crocheting. More often, though, I’m squeezing it in whenever I can — a few minutes in the dentist’s waiting room, picking the kids up from day camp or, if I’m really lucky, an hour on a beach or by a pool. These little moments make a grab-and-go bag the perfect size for my summer knitting. I can stash a ball or two of yarn and work on socks, the start of a sweater or sleeve, or that breezy summer shawl I’ve been meaning to cast on. They’re great for granny squares, and my spinning friends tell me these bags are also perfect for a drop spindle. In addition to these pretty Dumplings, I have a new batch of sockses boxed coming soon. My subscribers always get first access to new bags, so if you’d like to join, please sign up using the link on my website. Subscribers also get first access to sales as well as subscriber-only offers and bags.

Visit the Shire this December!

The 2024 Wild Hair Studio December Advent Calendar, Christmas in the Shire, is inspired by all things Shire — the people, places and things. To plan these colors, I will be revisiting the books, the movies and other Tolkien resources. I envision rolags and a batt which fit together as a set but also offer some color nuances to help your spinning or crafting imagination take off.

The advent is 24 small packages each containing one rolag (24 rolags in total) and a larger package for Day 25 containing a batt. The rolags will be 100% Merino wool and the batt will be a combination of wool from my farm, Merino wool and other luxury fibers. You will also receive one non-fiber surprise from my studio. Total fiber will be 14+ oz.

A silk and linen lacewieght with generous yardage and gorgeous colours — what’s not to love? We’ve just done our annual restock of Grazioso, one of our most popular spring/summer yarns!

This yarn is on the heavier side of lace weight, and works beautifully for shawls and lightweight summer garments. It’s also a perfect natural fibre choice for knitters and crocheters who prefer to avoid wool.

Content: 65% silk/35% linen
Yardage: 115g (4 oz)/approx. 690m (756yds)

New to spinning? A veteran knitter? We have fully stocked our online store with something for everyone! We always aim to stock seasonally appropriate yarns and combed top. We source our yarns/fiber locally whenever we can! Many of our yarn bases and combed top are all-American. The untreated fiber is grown, sheared, scoured and combed in the U.S.

The U.S. Merino/Rambouillet combed top pairs perfectly with our Natural Sport and Natural DK yarn to complete your project. Give yourself extra time to just squish this fiber before you spin it up — it’s that good! Incredibly soft and so fluffy! Suitable for all levels of spinners. The Natural Sport and Natural DK yarns have such a smooth, plump twist and spring to them. I would describe the knitted swatch as your softest, most-worn sweatshirt!

We have also stocked a couple of our most popular summer yarns.

Silk/Linen
65% silk, 35% linen
This light fingering-weight yarn is pure luxury. The combination makes beautiful spring/summer knits and is next-to-skin soft! The more you work with it, the softer it gets. The large skeins offer generous yardage as well with 496 yards per 115 grams.

Bamboo Fingering
80% Superwash Merino, 20% bamboo
100g | 436yd
This super soft fingering-weight yarn accepts the dye in a way that gives it a heathered look. If you’re looking for blend with plant-based fibers, this is a good one! Excellent for spring/summer garments and accessories. However, don’t limit yourself by seasons with this incredibly squishable yarn!

Check out our website or follow us on Instagram (@yarnjam) for updates! We have LOTS of great stuff planned for the fall, including many in-person events.

Happy crafting!

🎉🧶 Let’s keep the celebration going!

Greetings from a wet ECY Shedquarters. Thank you to everyone who came along to see us at Buxton Wool Gathering at the weekend. It was lovely to see so many people. See below for news of more shows you can see us at this year!

Since the weekend I have been able to get some photography done and that means we now have Carlisle Fingering available on the website. We have lots of colours to choose from, you can find them all on the homepage or on the Carlisle Fingering collection page. Carlisle Fingering is our pure Superwash extrafine Merino in a fingering weight singles yarn. It is soft, smooth, smooshy, and cloud-like, knitting/crocheting into a soft, snuggly fabric with a little bit of a fluffy halo but nonetheless good stitch definition.

We have had lots of yarn added to the website over the past few weeks. In case you missed news of any of these, we have Titus DK, Rosedale 4ply mini skeins, Tempo 4ply full and mini skeins as well as adding some Titus 4ply/Eldwick skein pairs. You can find all the newest yarns in the Latest Update category. Titus 4ply/Eldwick Lace skein pairs are perfect for Helda Panagary’s Herringbone Brick shawl pattern. We have a number of copies available to buy on the website.

Our next show will be The Wool Monty in Sheffield on 8th and 9th June. For more information or to book tickets check out their website. We can also now announce that we will be exhibiting at Yarndale again this year! Yarndale will be held at Skipton Auction Mart on 28th and 29th September 2024. Tickets are available via their website along with more information about the event.

This month we are looking at colors I don’t usually use: blacks and reds! “Radiator Building – Night” is a painting that is primarily black and gray with pops of white and red. The yarn is created by using a tie-off resist for the whites and patches of red layered with the black.

Orders cut off on May 25th allowing time for me to dye yarn and get it shipped out between the 28th and the 2nd. Yarn will come with a fact card about the artwork. All other goodies are only available to subscribers — if you wish to subscribe you may on my website.

You have your choice of yarn bases:
(Shown on Light)
Light- 2ply fingering, 400 yds/100gram, 100% SW Merino
Sock – 4ply fingering, 463 yds/100gram, 75% SW Merino, 25% nylon
Silky Single – single ply, 438 yds/100gram, 70% SW Merino, 30% Silk
DK – DK weight, 231 yds/100 gram, 100% SW Merino
