Showing Third Vault Yarns

Finding joy and community in times that feel like darkness is encroaching from every side is the way we find light in that darkness. Working together to be each others ports in the storm and building together so that no one has to suffer that storm.

Part of the end of year box has always been about looking back at the past year, then looking forward to things to bring with you and work towards in the new year. In that, this end of year box is no different. A Light in the Darkness is a collection of extras that look back at this year and hold space for our feelings about it, whilst encouraging us to move forward with intention, and of course the pretty yarn doesn’t hurt either! Sign-ups are open until the 15th of November.

Previous boxes have included stitch markers, a solo journalling/creating game about processing and speaking hope into yourself for the next year, dice, wool wash, pins, yarn and more.

On a lighter note and as a reminder to find Joy, I want to share some of the pictures taken this past weekend, whilst spending time with friends I’m organising with. I designed and launched a Mystery Knit Along this summer to celebrate nine years of Third Vault Yarns, and here it is fully revealed. If it’s something that you might like to put your needles to making, you can find the pattern on Patreon, Payhip and Ravelry.

We are preparing the End of 2024 Box over at Third Vault Yarns! This year, the box’s theme is Guiding Lights: being a light in the darkness.

You can choose the main skein of yarn (50g to 100g) with a choice of extra skeins. And you can also choose your End of Year box option.

– Make it an Adventurer’s Backpack with a project bag inspired by Winter Nights and Guiding Lights. The project bag is made by the Lovely Ellen of Mrs. Lam Yarns.
– Or the club box ~ A Light in the Darkness, includes the yarn and extras you typically see in our End of Year Box, themed around collective action and hope.

Some exciting news for the closer, scarier season, we have our final Socktober Sock sets in stock!
Wake the Grave was already featured, but there is still one left, so go grab it and make socks inspired by the Monster Mash!
Jack o’ Lanterns is our second edition inspired by the idea of wandering through a pumpkin patch, only to turn and find every single gourd already has a carved out face… With autumnal orange and browns with verdant green minis.
– And our third and final, Lights off, Ghouls out is our set for this week! Inspired by the lurking monsters in the dark and if the light at the end of the tunnel is trustworthy. There are multiple meanings behind witnessing will of the wisp lights, after all…

We are ready to ship the Fallen Gods!

If you missed it: the Fallen Gods colourway collection is inspired by the Godkiller novel series by Hannah Kaner. The collection involves six different skeins inspired by some of the gods of the series: Osidisen, Aan, Lethen, Skediceth, Makioron, and Hseth.
– Godkiller is a story about Kissen, a Godkiller whose family was murdered in the name of a God, and her life traded with another. She take her revenge against these Gods, as part of her Job only to finds herself bound by inconvenience to another little god and girl who loves him.

We did a dye reel series on my Instagram where I do some fancy narration over my dyeing process. Check out Makioron’s dye!

There are limited numbers of each available ready to ship, so if you’ve had your eye on any, it’s worth grabbing them As Soon As Possible!

Third Vault Yarns shop update is live and just in time for this first Indie Untangled post!

Featured first is our Scary Season Socktober set, which will be a small batch. I wanted to convey mossy tombstones and rusty hand railings — so amidst the gray and dark dominant colors, we have mossy green and rusty oranges. We have two Librarian Sock with Minis, one Companion 4-ply with Lib Sock Mini, and two Hardy DK.

Next feature is our Mystery Treat Skeins! No tricks, only treats! We’ve got a bit of a selection of single skeins and what better way to offer them to you than as a mystery bite-sized (not actually edible, or at least I hope you won’t eat it!) treat for £15 each? These skeins are made up of single skeins, from colourways that are no longer being dyed, single skeins from previous dye batches, one offs or skeins that I’ve used for testing out colour combos, or even when I get the opportunity to play with new bases.

And lastly: a limited collection of scary season plant fibre dyed yarn, because I can’t dye wool sock sets and leave you lovely plant fibre folks out. From left to right, we have🪦Graveyard Smash, Swamp Thing, BOO-lean, “Seems toasty to me” and “Pretty sure that was ectoplasm.”

Are you Creature Curious? Wanting to learn about all manner of magical, mythological, mystical cryptids? ⁣

You now have the opportunity to, with the Creature Compendium, our large project/blanket club! In 2024, we’ll be visiting countries across the world to learn about one of their creatures of lore. ⁣

Whilst we’ll be hopping from country to country, our colourways will have a much smoother transition in the form of a gradient/transitional flow, with variegated colourways that fit nicely into a gradient that cyclically spans the year. The 12 months will flow into each other, making it possible to start your project from any point.

Even better? We’ve got a wide range of bases available, including plant-based yarns, non-Superwash yarns and our Superwash bases with sizes available from 20g to 150g!

There’s a lot of choice and a wonderful little community on Facebook to join to share your projects and pattern ideas.

Sign-ups are open until the 15th of January.

We’ve had some beautiful yarns and amazing creatures in previous years so head on over to The Bestiary for a taste of compendium chapters past! For now, though, take a little look at the wonderful colourways from 2022, when we did a six-month deep dive into two countries to learn about their creatures with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and The Philippines.

LGBTQIA+ Pride month may be over, but we’re still here and our Prize Draw is still open to entries!

Our Goal with Crafting Queer Future is to raise money to support LGBTQIA+ people across the world for a better brighter and most importantly safe future. We’re starting this project by raising funds for charities and organisations that support this/our community and by direct mutual aid. You can check out the Prize draw here.

There are 22+ prizes and three days left to enter, so don’t walk run over to the crowdfunder and join us now!

If Prize draws and delayed gratification aren’t your thing then grab a copy of the new Balance Shawlette pattern on Payhip or Ravelry and you’ll still be putting money towards a good cause as all the proceeds for July will go directly to the crowdfunder organisations.

Balance as a shawlette draws on the idea of duality and perceived imbalance, whilst showing that all our varied differences make completeness and balance. With it we’re celebrating and fighting for queer joy. Using sets of eyelets to symbolise difference, and copying them on each side as if in a flip of a coin, or a look in the mirror, these disparate parts make a whole.

Designed using the yarn Chastity of Kitty Pride Fibres dyed for the Crafting Queer Future project, the Kaleidoscope shawlette takes two skeins in Tabby DK.

If you’re looking for other yarns that support this project check out Fight for the Queers, my yarn dyed for an upcoming pattern Yu Ra of knitboop has designed for our project.

Hope you’ll join us and have a wonderful weekend. Happy Disability Pride Month!

For those of you looking forward to Ambah O’Brien’s Supernova MKAL, I’ve got this Nebula inspired set of 12 x 20g mini skeins along with a new semisolid colourway Starless Night, perfect for the MKAL which starts in July. You can knit them as shown or split the colours that are closely dyed to make a similar gradient on either side of the pink. Or if MKALs aren’t your bag they would work perfectly for the Astria Shawl also by Ambah or any fade requiring pattern.

If that wasn’t enough minis for you we also have the Fight for the Queers Mini set in Progress Pride flag colours, dyed for an upcoming pattern from Knitboop, specifically designed for the Crafting Queer Future Project. With this project, five collaborators and myself are aiming to remember and pay homage to our past and envision a brighter, better, safe future for LGBTQIA+ people across the world. To that end, we’re also running a crowdfunder prize draw, chock full of amazing prizes from fantastic contributors with more getting added weekly. To find out more about the project visit @ThirdVaultYarns on Instagram. Or if you just want to check out those prizes and enter to send some money the way of the Transgender Law Center, LGBT Foundation and the Stephen Lewis Foundation Partners In Pride head over to the prize draw.

Hello again!

I’ve got some exciting new things to share, including my favourite new yarn set! Worlds Beyond is inspired by the fantastic TTRPG podcast Worlds Beyond Number, with fantastic storytelling and amazing soundscapes. This yarn though! Bright with dark, swirling colours, splashes and speckles. This set has it all. Made up of the colourways Stars Abound, Stories Untold and Norn.

Stars Abound is the first in this set. It’s a very variegated colourway with splashes of teal and navy with oranges, golds and red splashes and speckles interspersed with white. Stories Untold is the next in the set combining two darker orange speckle sections alternating with navy and teal. Finally, there’s Norn, with its darker blues and teals rounding off the set.

It’s also time for the next installment of our project bag club, with an exclusively-designed fabric made into a beautiful bag by Sew Yarnilicious and exclusive yarn all themed around the Shadow and Bone TV series. It’s available in 50g or 100g skeins on a range of our bases. So what are you packing in your project bag to cross the fold?

Salutations!

It’s been a while and a busy February. With March upon us, alongside the wonderful hints of spring, I wanted to sprinkle a little joy into this budding month!

This new pattern celebrates the intertwined and changing nature of craft and industry in history. It features garter stitch with a stranded intarsia interlocking cable. Unravel & Entwine is a two-size shawl that can be knit up with 120g of 4ply for a shawlette or 250g for the big squishy shawl of your dreams. It’s now available via our Payhip and Ravelry shop. If you’re more of a DK fan, you can switch things up and break out the DK yarns for it too!

We’ve also got a fantastic shop update for you this Friday, 3rd March, featuring mini sets like Beachcombing (inspired by shell collecting FOMO), Enchanting as the Sunset and more. There’s also an update to our Loading Bar collection of colourways with Stray and the Last Campfire, inspired by two wonderful adventure/puzzle exploration games. All of our Loading bars will be getting the update, though a couple are taking a little longer to load. 😉 The Loading Bar collection is inspired by video games and with this new update they are perfect for your assigned/planned pooling projects.

The bulk of the year is behind us and the heatwave (at least in England) is being broken up with some rain, the nights draw closer and the cold starts to filter in. Which says to me it’s time to get the needles and hooks working! August is still an uber special part of Summer, and not just because it’s our birthday. ????

This time we have for you TWO Yarns of the Month, in honour of Nine Worlds, Fenrir & Valkyrie. Both of which can be purchased in the Thirdvaultyarns.com shop.

Our Nine worlds colourways are always inspired by Norse mythology and they are exclusive to the period around the Nine Worlds sci-fi convention. So get yours here as they are only available until the 20th!

Speaking of limited time only, you also only have until the 20th to grab your place on the latest Goblet of Fandom. Come kick some Demon ass with Sam, Dean and Bobby.

If that wasn’t enough remember to drop by the shop next week for our shop update, you might find some special birthday treats!

Have you signed up for The Alchemist’s Tote yet? If not there are only a couple of days left to do so! In this Edition we’ve got a Steampunk flavour added to our Alchemical theme. You get yarn and a special project bag from The Tudor Rose Crafts Studio and an extra from Front Pocket Studio. So head over to the website for more information.

Or are you just looking for some limited edition yarn? We’ve got our June Yarn of the MonthThanks available in store also, does it call to you? If so grab it quick because if you wait it will be gone forever!
