Spring is full of unpredictable weather — cool mornings, sunny afternoons, and sleet in the evenings. The beautiful, naturally dyed colors feel alive and connected to the fresh energy of spring.

Using a three-color set of Donegal Tweed DK makes the process even more fun. The colors shift across your project, each row bringing a spark of creativity and joy. By the time your shawl is finished, you’ll have a cheerful, handmade layer perfect to wrap up in whenever spring weather has you guessing.

Spring arrives in fresh greens, a new sock set, and cozy new bases.

Spring is starting to show up everywhere in soft new greens, and that fresh energy inspired this month’s yarns. Our Spring Greens mini skein set brings together six shades of the season — sage, evergreen, light mint, spring green, forest, and seafoam — perfect for cheerful stripes and colorwork.

We’re also introducing Spring Tide, a sock set with a seafoam base layered with sage and finished with teal and warm honey speckles. It is paired with sage and seafoam minis for easy contrast cuffs and heels. These colors are also available on our new Alpaca Cotton base, a soft blown yarn that creates a cozy fabric with a gentle halo and beautifully layered color.

And for those who love something a little brighter, the Neon Aqua Tweed Sock Set brings a playful pop of color with vibrant aqua and cheerful tweedy flecks. We add the two neon contrast minis for cuffs and heels in lemon glow and flo orange.

I was recently invited to vend with Carolina Fiber Retreats and Tours at their annual Surf ‘n Sand Beach Retreat in Carolina Beach, NC. A crisp Atlantic breeze greeted us in mid February, but it was a welcome escape from the full‑throttle Mardi Gras madness back home in New Orleans. Even better, I woke up each morning to a stunning 6:45am sunrise from my 10th‑floor balcony (bonus: everyone at the retreat gets the same gorgeous view) and had the chance to reconnect with knitting friends who are retreat regulars. If you are ever looking for a retreat to attend, be sure to look into Carolina Fiber Retreats and Tours.

Inspired by the coastal vibes, I created a special retreat‑exclusive colorway called Surf n’ Sand, and it was a huge hit. Every hank and mini set found a happy home. This colorway blends blues, aquas, and sandy browns, echoing the rhythm of waves along the Atlantic shoreline. Missed it at the retreat? You can grab a skein (or three) in my Etsy shop.

I’ve been slinging project bags and hand‑dyed yarns for nearly a decade, but many folks still don’t know me. So here’s a quick intro to me and my business:

Rick is the creative force behind WhimzeeStitches Designs, a passion‑driven brand specializing in handmade fabric and vinyl project bags, vibrant hand‑dyed yarns, and thoughtfully curated knitting accessories. With roots in the quilting world, Rick developed an early love for texture, color, and craftsmanship — an influence that continues to shape every piece he creates today.

A dedicated solopreneur since 2015, Rick blends style and functionality with an unmistakable artistic flair. His work is inspired by culturally rich experiences, global travel, incredible food, and an endless supply of coffee. Drawing heavily from the vibrant colors and spirit of New Orleans, each handmade creation reflects a joyful balance of creativity, quality, and care, designed to delight knitters, crocheters, and fiber artists alike.

The second installment in our Ainu Stud Button series has arrived! Preorders are now open for the Ainu Watchful Eye Stud Buttons, with delivery to your doorstep at the end of March.

Handmade through fair trade partnerships in Indonesia and the United States, these 1-inch square white brass and leather buttons are more than just functional closures; they are a tribute to the magnificent textile traditions of the Ainu people. This new set features the Siknoka motif, a protective “eye” pattern historically used by Ainu women on traditional Atush robes to grant the wearer the power to see and ward off malevolent forces. By incorporating these into your latest project, you are carrying forward a beautiful visual vocabulary of protection and personal expression.

To celebrate this new release, take 10% off ALL stud buttons in our shop — including the new Watchful Eye set — now through March 31, 2026. Simply enter the code NoSewStyle at checkout to claim your savings!

Mother nature can’t quite make up her mind around this time of year.

One moment it’s sunshine, the next it’s a freezing. That’s when a shawl becomes the perfect project. It’s something warm to wrap around your shoulders and is also fun to knit.

The Tweedish shawl by Brian Smith can be made with three calming colors of naturally dyed Donegal Tweed DK, creating a soft, textured wrap that’s as comforting to knit as it is to wear.

Choose your colors and cast on a little spring comfort.
