Hi! I’m Chrystee of Play at Life Fiber Arts. I’ve been dyeing yarn and fiber on a small scale in Southeast Massachusetts since 2009. I spent many years juggling parenting duties, and working a day job while trying to keep my little yarnie business chugging along. I’m happy to still be at it and even happier to be able to pursue this as a full time gig now!

I focus on dyeing variegated and coordinating semisolid colorways on yarns and spinning/felting fibers. I especially love colorwork and fade sets, and I’m always coming up with new rainbows — brights, neons, dark, moody — I can’t get enough rainbows!

Feel free to follow along on my color adventures on my socials. I’m playatlifefiberarts on Facebook and Instagram.

Don’t forget to play today!

This light-up gauge divides your swatch into a grid, making it easier to count stitches without losing track! It really shines on fine yarns – the illuminated lines break your sea of stitches up into smaller areas, making it much easier for your eyes to focus and keep count when your gauge is 30 or more stitches over 4″.

This tool is the size of a thick credit card, which makes it super convenient to throw into any project bag. You can cycle between 10 different colors and one slow color-changing mode, allowing you to choose the color that contrasts with your yarn best, or just whatever color suits your mood. It has an internal rechargeable battery, and when off and stored, it’ll last for years without needing recharging, and it’s easy to charge it back up with any USB charger and USB-C cable.

The Glow Gauge is a handy addition to any knitter’s toolkit.

The nights are getting colder over here in Scotland and the end of the year is fast approaching. We’ve updated the shop with new colourways and yarns, including our non-Superwash and plant fibre bases. Since it’s that time of year, we’ve stocked our Baubles, which include a geeky yarn colourway and a little extra all wrapped up in a pretty box or fancy bauble to put on or under your tree or mantle.

We’ve also got our newest range of hand-dyed project bags, with the fabric colourways celebrating autumn, the Aurora, and watercolour paintings. A full collection of Atlas, Calypso, and Luna bags enable you to choose between a large all-purpose crossbody bag, a more traditional roll-top project bag, and a perfect small to medium bag for projects on the go.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention that the last few weeks of November bring back the Indie Gift-Along, which we’re taking part in over on Ravelry, with some of our patterns. You can check out via the gift bundle on our designer page.

The Indie Design Gift-A-Long is a six-week-long KAL/CAL of holiday gifts made from patterns designed by 204 independent designers. From November 20 at 5pm EST through November 26 at 11:59 pm EST we, along with 203 other indie designers, will be discounting several of our patterns by 25%. Use the code giftalong2025 to get the discount. Take part in the fun and shenanigans over in the Indie Gift-along group to win prizes.

For a limited time, WLS Makes Stuff is offering our best per card price of the year through our Mystery Packs! This random assortment of six individual cards is just $18 — that’s just $3 a card (40% off)! At this price we can only make a limited number of packs available, so buy before they’re gone!

While we can’t fulfill requests for specific individual cards, you may request knit only, crochet only, or all cards. Each pack will include six different cards, with no duplicates. Knit and crochet only packs may include cards such as the Yarn Chicken Birthday Card or Crafty Witch card that work for either craft. Please note that due to the substantial discount already on this item, the Mystery 6-Pack is not eligible for the 5PLUS discount.

Additionally from November 18 to December 18 we’re offering 20% off USPS Ground Shipping rates on all orders! The discount will automatically be reflected in your shipping cost at checkout.

At the end of this year, our handcrafted leather shawl cuffs will be discontinued to make room for new collections in 2026. This is your last chance to secure a truly unique styling solution, especially our customizable Charm Lock Shawl Cuffs! These cuffs are the perfect finishing touch, adding a touch of luxury and elegance to your favorite handmade projects.

The Charm Lock Shawl Cuff is a fan favorite because it allows you to truly personalize your accessory. Available in single-wrap or double-wrap styles, you can choose from a variety of decorative charms to perfectly match your project and mood. A JUL Designs shawl cuff provides a beautiful and secure styling solution you won’t find anywhere else. While we still have a variety of beautiful styles remaining — including the simple Snap-On Straps, Bezel Cuffs, and modern Round/Oval Ring Cuffs — we encourage you to shop the Charm Lock Shawl Cuffs now while supplies last to secure your favorites before they are gone forever!

Pre-colonization and the advent of money, koha (gift, offering, donation) was the economic lifestyle in Te Ao Māori: a circular economy and redistribution of resources and valuables throughout the community.

Nowadays, giving a koha (in the form of money, goods or services) is the practice of bestowing an unconditional gift.

A koha best given is said to mirror the mana of both the giver and the recipient: what the giver is able to give, and the level of appreciation of the recipient.

The Koha Mitts feature a colorwork motif of the Kūmara plant (as identified by the jagged stripes). Someone who is very generous is said to have manaakitanga (hospitality), often demonstrated by the sharing of one’s food or resources with another out of aroha (love, compassion). To respect the mana of yourself and the recipient, this gift is best given to someone who exemplifies the qualities of the Giver Fibre Muse — someone who is selfless and seeks to help others AND is knitworthy!

This Koha can honor their mahi (work) and make them feel loved.

Use the code TPoF-PoTW-kohasbe at checkout on Ravelry to receive 60% off the pattern this weekend, exclusively for Indie Untangled subscribers!
