To end the first month of 2021 I have a small shop update with several new things.
The first is a series of new colors I am excited to continue producing throughout this year – yarns inspired by my “Tidepool” paintings. Begun in 2017, these paintings are more abstract and fluid in nature than any I had previously done. As such, the yarn colorways have to be dyed just right to achieve this same look. After much experimentation, I have finally settled on a technique and recipe I like and now I’m ready to share. The three new colorways from this series were the first in my series of paintings as well – “Morning Dandelion Moon”, “Green Sea Tears” and “Blooming Violet Gardens.”

The other update to the shop comes from my new monthly yarn club (Which you can still sign up for). Based off of a very early painting by Salvador Dali, “Landscape Near Ampurdan” is a bright sea of blue, broken up by orange, green and yellow. This colorway is available in limited quantities on my “Light” and “DK” base. And as an added bonus, there are also a few complementary tonals available now, too – in the form of yarns dyed strictly with the runoff from my variegated dye techniques. Since I only used the runoff from these colorways, I believe they’d make a great pairing. Look for them as labeled “Turpentine” on my site.

Bernie’s Mittens Kits are now available for preorder! There are several patterns on Ravelry and other sites of Bernie Sanders’ inauguration mittens and now here’s a convenient kit to knit your own pair! The kit comes in two choices: one with white yarn and one without white yarn. The kit with white yarn has an automatic 10% discount. Shipping time is currently 1-2 weeks but subject to change based on availability.

I don’t often knit with chunky yarn, but I think we can all agree that’s a mistake. It’s so satisfying in your hands, it makes such squooshable fabric, it grows fast and the resulting knitwear is just so irresistible! So although my new pattern, Tannholz, can actually be made with any weight of yarn, I have to admit the chunky version is my favourite child. It’s also the one my daughter keeps trying to steal from me.

Tannholz (“pine woods”) uses two textured stitch patterns to suggest two views of a forest – from far away, in geometric outline, and very close-up, with dense, bobbly pinecones. Note, I said “bobbly,” not actual bobbles. It’s done with just increases and decreases and goes faster than you’d think. I love what happens when you double wrap the longer version around your neck and get to see both contrasting textures jostling up against each other.

The pattern is written for two sizes and any gauge of yarn, and it’s 20% off until the end of Sunday, 24 January.

In the past few months, we created some colourways that are so beautiful and so delightfully winter-y that we’ve decided we just have to share them with you as Limited Editions. “Stillness” and “Late Sun” were first dyed for a couple of virtual shows we attended at the end of last year, and “Quietude” is completely new. And while each on its own is lovely, I think the three together create a winterscape that is downright stunning.

These Limited Edition colourways are available for preorders for a two weeks only, with orders closing on February 4, so that their Dyeing Day can be held shortly after and the skeins sent out once they are dry. Join in with these gorgeous colourways before they disappear!

There is a new line of Professional Cat Stitch Markers at WeeOnes! Animals are cute. Some might say that animals in clothing are even cuter. The first release was a set of four medical professional cats wearing scrubs and masks. This week the latest set — Supreme Cat Justice Stitch Markers hit the shop. Now through Sunday you get a free bald eagle stitch marker with each set of Supreme Cat Justices.

WeeOnes are all hand sculpted without the use of molds. They are available with soldered rings or lobster claw clasps. Gift wrapping is available for an additional fee.

One of our favorite color combinations, yellow and gray (or “grellow” as we like to say), happens to be Pantone’s Colors of the Year. We’ve used both here in our Linglestown Shawl (shown in our Fawn and Buttercup).

The asymmetrical shawl combines garter stitch, stripes, ribbing and the traditional Shetland lace pattern, Crown of Glory. It’s available on our website as a PDF pattern or a kit. The kit includes two skeins of Liverpool Fingering yarn and a printed copy of the pattern. You can choose from the color combinations we’ve put together or pick your own.

“Fly me to the Moon, and let me play among the stars. Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars.”
-Fly Me to the Moon (1954)

The beauty of this love song has always made one feel dreamy, and it inspired this wonderful handcrafted set. Kit Includes:

1. One skein of fingering yarn (Blue Spruce or Balsam Base)

2. One Jam and Bread Co. Pottery Moon Mug
