I’m kicking off yarn season with a new bulky base — Gusto! It’s a 2-ply Superwash Merino yarn with a soft and gentle feel. It knits up super quick making it perfect for a one skein accessory such as a cowl or hat. Gusto the yarn was named for the first pup we raised for The Seeing Eye — Gusto! And he really did live life with gusto so he would definitely appreciate a quick knit. Gusto the yarn is currently available on my website for preorder.

A new yarn base wouldn’t be complete without a new pattern — it’s the Hunterdon Hat by Katy Carroll. Katy’s latest design features Gusto Bulky and ranges from baby to adult. Top it off with a pom if you like. I’ll have kits at the NJ Sheep and Fiber festival Sept 7-8 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

Lisa Ross’ new Sunspotter shawl is a vibrant color combo that brings a smile to my face. I especially love the story behind the name — the design represents the dark spots “sunspots” that dance across the surface of the sun. Sunspotter is knit using one skein of Scrumptious HT and a Perfection gradient set. The pattern is currently available on ravelry for a $1 with coupon code SPOTTED through this Saturday.

The Oliviana Cardigan for Bigs is a top-down cardigan with a relaxed fit and lace panels. Designer Sheila Stromberg designed this after her Oliviana Cardigan for Littles — a ruffled cardi sized baby to 16 years. The for Bigs version is knit in Scrumptious HT and Aerie for the lace ensuring it will meet all your lace desires.

What’s your Rhinebeck Sweater? Depending on the temperature mine will be either Once Again, a long sleeve DK weight sweater, or Twice Again, a short sleeve fingering weight sweater. Both are designed by Deb Gerhard and feature a colorful yoke. We’d love to see you at Rhinebeck! Deb will be at the Indie Untangled marketplace for the first session and we’re planning a meet up for sometime during Rhinebeck weekend.

Named after Catoctin Mountain Park in Thurmond, Maryland, these colors tell a story of vivid autumn colors that decorate the magnificent hardwoods in Maryland. I loved to go hiking there on beautiful October days with my toddler in tow and baby on my back. We loved traversing the creeks that run through the park, blues sparkling in the fall sunshine.

Tulum glazed is inspired by the stunning waters at the base of the cliff where the Mayan city of a Tulum was built.

Naples glazed is inspired by a bright, sunny day in Naples, Florida. The fall season is the perfect time to visit this gorgeous beach town on Florida’s southwest coast..

This color is the color of autumn in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Although fall comes a little later down south than it does in the northeast, the color display is no less spectacular.

Pink Sands Beach glazed is inspired by the stunning pink sands of the beaches of Bermuda.

Convergence – Six hat patterns bringing together line and form

A host of creative techniques come together in this collection, breaking a few rules to build on a range of colourwork possibilities. Short rows, mosaic knitting, motifs and all-over patterns combine in deeply satisfying sideways constructions, all using Dragonfly Fibers’ hand-dyed Merino DK yarn.

Each of the six patterns are presented as written and charted instructions and include four sizes, covering 18″ to 24″ heads. Furthermore, adjustment notes are included allowing the knitter to fully customise their fit. As with everything Woolly Wormhead, the techniques are covered in depth, too — detailed photographic tutorials feature in the eBook and each single pattern includes illustrated tutorials.

Woolly has been designing sideways knit hats for over a decade and it’s become her signature style. Whether you’re new to this construction method or have worked one of her unique designs before these patterns will have you wanting to knit the whole set.
