Back in 2013, I designed a cowl using the stitch that I used for this sweater. I thought the stitch looked rather heraldic, and so I thought I’d name it after Lancelot’s mother. Turns out that was easier said than done. While some of the stories in the Authurian legends are very clear cut, apparently Lancelot’s parentage doesn’t fall into that category. I found four different names associated with Lancelot’s mother: Helsin, Clarine, Helaine, and Elaine. I used Clarine for the cowl, and chose Helaine for this little sweater. In retrospect, perhaps I lucked out as I had plenty of names to choose from.

Helaine has details that Lancelot’s mother, regardless of her name, would have loved: it starts with a folded hem, it’s worked straight up from hem to armholes without shaping, a handful of stitches are added for the cute little sleeves, it has a square neckline, and it has proper clasps to hold it together in front.

Getting Ready for a Yarn Season

At Galiana Creations we have been busy getting goodies ready for our 2017 shows.

Steel City Fiber Festival in Allentown, PA, is next weekend, April 8th and 9th. There is a chartered bus round trip from the city. If you’re interested, feel free to check out the Festival’s website. It’s a day trip and the bus will depart from right outside Penn station.

At Steel City we will premiering our Yummy Minis. Set of six skeins in gorgeous colors. Each skein is over 90 yards! Just imagine all you can create with 540 yards of Yummy goodness.

Also we are offering for the first time YAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our new Silky Yak is approximately 522 yards of silk, yak and Merino wool blended to create a luxurious yarn.

Speckles are back! Fun yarn full of color and of course GRADIENTS!!! Lots of gradients, project bags plus many other surprises. I can’t wait!

Dharma is our gorgeous new light fingering weight. It’s 50% yak and 50% silk, so you can imagine how this will feel on your needles and against your skin. Dharma a generous 480 yards per skein. You can find it on our website here.

Wind Song

Introducing Wind Song, a deceptively easy to knit lace shawl that is perfect for spring and summer.

Wind Song begins with an intuitive lace body that lends itself to relaxing knitting with friends. A simple garter stitch and lace section then leads to an applied border. Which means very few stitches to bind off, and who doesn’t love that?!

I’ve included alternative instructions for skeins of yarn with less than 440 yards such as Marigoldjen’s Stellina Sock.

This is a charted pattern, and I’ve included a magnification of the chart repeats for your convenience. If you haven’t knitted from charts before, this a great pattern to start with. The charts are simple and very easy to follow.

I’m so excited to announce my newest base, Quill! This single-ply fingering weight yarn is 70% superwash merino and 30% silk, making it perfect for shawls or garments. It’s one of the softest yarns I’ve ever felt, and takes color vibrantly. It’s that time again, Sign-ups are open for the April edition of the YarniTea! club from Third Vault Yarns. Yes, I know the name is a little unimaginative but actually the name is a play on words inspired by the Unity game engine and I hope symbolises the perfect combination of Yarn and Tea or, if tea isn’t your tipple, coffee.

In true Third Vault style we have a geeky theme every month, and for April it’s all about Pacific Rim. Remember those big monsters and the man-powered robots duking it out over the sea. Some Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi and pretty good soundtrack. What’s not to love!
